"Kindness and faithfulness keep a king safe, through kindness his throne is made secure." King Solomon

"So did you guys remember to bring something for Show and Tell today?" Rey asked. "I brought my favorite doll" Regina replied. "How about you Rex?" "Oh no! I totally forgot. I don't have time to run home to get anything either. Rats!" "Hey guys! Check this out!" "Is that a sword Rey?" Regina queried. "I think it is. Why don't you try to pull it out of that rock Rex. It would be so cool if you brought that to Show and Tell." "Good one Rey. There's no way I could remove a sword that big from the stone." "You gotta give it a shot at least. If you can pull the sword out I'll buy you lunch for the next two weeks." "Okay, here goes nothing!"

Rex struggled to remove the heavy sword on his first attempt. "This is impossible. Let's get going. We're gonna be late for school." "One more try!" Regina shouted. Rex took another deep breath, bent his knees, and was able to pull the sword from the stone. "Whoa!" Rex exclaimed as he felt a jolt of electricity surging through his body. He started to feel woozy as beads of cold sweat dotted his forehead. Soon that feeling was replaced by one of both great strength and bravery. "Rex? Are you okay dude?" Rey asked his trembling friend. "I've never felt better in my life. Let's go. I can't wait to show off this bad boy during Show and Tell."

MR. LANCELOT'S GRADE FIVE CLASS
SHOW AND TELL

"Thank you for your presentation Contessa. We're all wiser for having seen your cat's collection of fur balls. Next up we have Rex and... Holy Crackers what is that thing?" "It's a sword. I found it out in the woods on my way to school." "Well put it away. It's very dangerous." "I can't let go out it. It's got some strange hold over me." "I can't have you walking around my classroom with a dangerous weapon. You're going to have to go to Principal King's office right this minute." "Yes sir" a disappointed Rex replied as he shuffled out of the classroom.

"Merle, my kingdom is under siege by a band of brutal barbarians. Quick, fetch me Excalibur!" "Here you go Your Majesty." "This is a twig Merle. This is no time for tomfoolery! Where is my sword?" "It's, uh, kinda........" "Kinda what?" "Missing." "Missing? Excalibur, the all-powerful sword that made me King has disappeared? You will be banished to the dungeons for an eternity!" "Wait! I think I know where it may have gone. Apparently a young warrior by the name of Rex has laid claim to the sword." "Where is this Rex?" "Hoboken, New Jersey" "New Jersey?" "But I can teleport you and your knights to retrieve thy sword."

PRINCIPAL'S OFFICE

Rex was a good kid who never got into any trouble. He'd never been sent to the Principal's office during his entire time at Monmourth Middle School. Then again he had never brought a sword to class either. He stopped and paused for a moment before he got ready to enter the office. "Don't go in there Rex!" "Who said that?" "It's me, the sword. I'm Excalibur." "Is that a new character from Fortnite?" "No you silly lad. I belong to the legendary King Arthur." "How did I end up with you?" "Your name is Rex. That means King in Latin." "I don't follow." "Sigh! Just don't go into that office. I think King Arthur has set a trap for you."

Before he could turn the doorknob, King Arthur burst through the door to the office. "There it is, my precious Excalibur. Hand me my sword you knave or prepare for the battle of a lifetime!" "Huh?" "Just me me the darn sword!" "I can't." "Alright then. Let us do battle!" The King and Rex were soon engaged in a furious sword fight. Rex didn't want to fight but somehow he had developed a form of synergy with the sword. It was as if the sword knew what Rex was thinking and acting accordingly. The pair battled up and down the hallway. "Timeout!" Rex shouted. "Timeout?" "I have to tie my shoe." "What in blazes?" "Okay, game on!"

The battle raged on until it was interrupted by an unlikely peacemaker. "Boys! How many times have I told you that you're not allowed to have epic sword fights in the hallway." "Sorry Ms. Le Fay." Ms. Le Fay taught Grade 5 History. "Either finish your duel outside or I'll take both your swords." "How dare a mere damsel speak to the King like that?" After receiving a nasty glare from Ms. Stone, King Arthur recanted. "Sorry Ms. Stone" the King timidly replied. The fight continued into the playground as Rex and King Arthur sword their swords with all their might. Just as Rex was getting the best of the King, a bolt of light blinded him, sending him to the ground.

"My knights have arrived! Now do the honorable thing and hand me thy sword!" "I can't. I'd like to but I'm kinda bonded to this thing." "Foolish child! There is no other option but to have my knights take it from you by force. On my command noble knights I want you to unleash mayhem upon this misguided soul!" The King raised his hand and when he lowered it, his knights went after Rex. The reluctant warrior was able to fend off the first wave of knights but soon he was confronted by reinforcements. Armed with will and determination, and grace too, Rex was able to defeat an entire army with help from his powerful sword Excalibur.
