THE COLOURS OF CHRISTMAS

Vermelho

      Esta cor possui vários significados. O religioso que representa o sangue de Jesus, fogo e caridade.  Outros significados estão ligados com o azevinho, muito comum nos centros de mesa nas decorações natalícias, que assume uma cor avermelhada durante o inverno.

        Também é considerado um tom que apela para os sentimentos mais nobres de cada um, por ser uma cor quente, símbolo de sentimentos e do coração.

        O vermelho parece ter sido adotado por causa do azevinho, arbusto que vive ao longo do inverno e que, mesmo nesta altura do ano se cobre de bagas vermelhas este aparecimento de vida simboliza Cristo

Red

This colour has several meanings. The religious who represents the blood of Jesus, fire and charity. Other meanings are linked with holly, very common in the centerpieces in the holiday decorations, which takes on a reddish color during the winter.

It is also considered a tone that appeals to the noblest feelings of each, because it is a warm color, symbol of feelings and heart.

The red seems to have been adopted because of the holly, shrub that lives throughout the winter and that even at this time of year is covered in red berries this appearance of life symbolizes Christ.

Verde

O verde representa a esperança, juventude, natureza e também é um símbolo de vida eterna.

No significado religioso, a cor verde é interpretada junto à vermelha. Enquanto a última representa o sangue de Jesus Cristo quando foi crucificado, a primeira tem a ver com a vida e a esperança de alcançar a vida eterna devido aos sacrifícios, que Jesus realizou.

        O verde também é a cor das verduras que tanta importância têm na decoração. A tradição vem dos primeiros festivais do solstício. 

Green

Green represents hope, youth, nature and is also a symbol of eternal life.

Religiously, the color green is interpreted together with red. While the latter represents the blood of Jesus Christ when he was crucified, the first has to do with life and the hope of attaining eternal life due to the sacrifices that Jesus accomplished.

Green is also the color of the vegetables that matter so much in decoration. Tradition comes from the first solstice festivals.

Nas saturnais romanas acendiam-se velas para pedir ao sol que brilhasse de novo, na altura do solstício de inverno.

Nesta altura ano, a escuridão era maior e o frio intenso, por isso, as velas tomavam lugar importante, fornecendo luz e calor.

A luz, por sua vez, simboliza cristo. Assim, esta tradição foi permanecendo ao longo dos anos. É comum acenderem-se velas nas igrejas e também em nossas casas, durante os festejos de natal.

CANDLES

In the Roman saturns, candles were lit to ask the sun to shine again at the height of the winter solstice.

At this time of year, the darkness was greater and the chill intense, so the sails took on an important place, providing light and heat.

Light symbolizes Christ. Thus, this tradition has remained over the years. It is common to light candles in the churches and also in our homes during the Christmas festivities.

A estrela de Natal, também conhecida como a estrela de Belém, tornou-se num ornamento típico das nossas casas, na época de Natal.

É colocada no topo da árvore de Natal ou no presépio e lembra-nos a estrela que guiou os três Reis Magos até ao local onde o menino Jesus nasceu.

A estrela característica possui quatro pontas que representam os pontos cardeais (norte, sul, este, oeste) e uma cauda luminosa, fazendo lembrar um cometa. Também se usa a estrela de cinco pontas lembrando o ser humano (Cabeça, braços e pernas).

A estrela de Natal para além de ter orientado os reis magos, representa a Luz do Mundo, Jesus Cristo.

ESTRELA

STAR

The star of Christmas, also known as the star of Bethlehem, has become a typical ornament of our houses at Christmas time.

It is placed on the top of the Christmas tree or in the crib and reminds us of the star that guided the three Magi to the place where the baby Jesus was born.

A star feature has four points representing the cardinal points (north, south, east, west) and a luminous tail, reminiscent of a comet. Also used is the five-pointed star resembling the human being (Head, arms and legs).

The Christmas star, besides guiding the wise men, represents the Light of the World, Jesus Christ.   

CAMPAINHAS

Os sinos marcam o som dos céus. Por esse motivo, suas badaladas na noite de Natal anunciam o nascimento do Menino Jesus, o Salvador.

Nesse sentido, os sinos assinalam a passagem para uma nova era, uma vida pautada nos ensinamentos de Cristo, que veio salvar a humanidade de seus pecados.

BELLS

The bells mark the sound of heaven. For this reason, their revels on Christmas Eve announce the birth of the Child Jesus, the Saviour.

In this sense, the bells signal the passage to a new era, a life based on the teachings of Christ, who came to save mankind from their sins.
