Exploring Space..

This is our Solar System that contains 7 different planets. They rotate together in a formation around the sun, this is called Planetary Orbit.

We live here on a planet called Earth, the third orbit from the sun.

Planet Earth..
Shape: Our Earth is shaped as a sphere, yet somewhat bulges at the equator.
Size: The Earth in comparison to the sun, is so small that 1,300,000 planet Earths can fit inside the sun! It's diameter is 109 times smaller than the sun.
The Heliocentric Model..
WHO? Nicolaus Copernicus was the astrological professional to come up with this model and theory.
WHAT? This model was a theory that stated all planets rotated or revolved around the sun, rather than the Earth.

WHEN? The model was released and published in 1543.
WHY? Copernicus developed this theory to prove of his belief on the Solar System.

But why wasn't it accepted?
The church that Copernicus attended, was in a total disbelief to his theory. What Copernicus was saying and claiming to be true, did not fit within their belief and the Bible, which stated that all of the planets orbited the Earth in the Geocentric Theory.
The theory did not match what God said, therefore the information was wrong, period! The church got so mad that they almost put him to death.
So how did the theory succeed?
With the help and innovative solutions from fellow astronomers, The Heliocentric Theory was able to be scientifically proven and carried on throughout the centuries.

Contributions to the theory..
Galileo Galilei
First astronomer to use a telescope to study the solar system, and prove the Heliocentric Theory.

First astronomer that was successfully able to prove planets orbit around the sun and correctly to define them furthermore proving the Heliocentric Theory.
Johannes Kepler

First astronomer to use the Laws of Gravitation to prove why the Heliocentric Model was true. This is because the biggest mass in the system (Sun) causes the smaller masses to pull towards it and revolve.
Issac Newton

Where else can we explore besides space?
Let's navigate the land!
17th century travelers, had to travel to the new world by using tools to help them navigate the land and the ocean. Examples of these explorers are Samuel Champlian, George Waymouth, and John Smith.

Advanced Tools to Help Explorers !

Would help people to navigate where they were going after looking at a map. THey could tell which way to go at all times and knowing the direction would lead them to their destination.
Compass

It would help the sailors to measure the speed of their boat. By attaching light line on a reel with knots in it to a chip of wood, they would tie the knots and count them so that they could tell how many miles they had traveled, therefore able to calculate speed.
