This is Tommy. Tommy is about to take his very first trip to the dentist. He is very nervous and refuses to go, but little does he know the problems he could have if he doesn't visit the dentist.

Tommy tries his hardest to convince his mom to not take him to the dentist, but she won't budge. When Tommy arrives at the dentist, the dentist brings him into the room and Tommy's stomach drops at what he sees.

You are going to the dentist!
There were tons of sharp tools and needles and scary looking machines and Tommy ran away crying to his mommy. She and the dentist told him every thing was going to be fine. They were just going to do a cleaning, put in some fluoride, and check for any gingivitis.

There is nothing to be scared of Tommy.
Tommy laid on the bed scared to death. The dentist opened his mouth and looked around with a disgusted look. She noticed that Tommy had lots of plaque building up in his back molars. Tommy was confused and the dentist simply explained to him what plaque was.

Plaque is simply just the buildup of bacteria near your gums.
Tommy was extremely nervous that there was something wrong with his teeth. He brushed his teeth twice a day and flossed every night. The dentist said although he took good care of his teeth, he simply just missed a few spots while brushing but the plaque wasn't super bad.

The dentist brushed his teeth, flossed them, and placed the fluoride. Then the dentist took a small metal hook to scrape the plaque off his teeth. Tommy jumped a little when the hook pricked his gums. The dentist apologized and was more careful.

OOPS SO SORRY!
Once the dentist was finished cleaning his teeth and checking for cavities, Tommy got up from the bed and realized the dentist wasn't as scary as he thought. He thanked the dentist for fixing his teeth and the dentist rewarded him with a toy and a new toothbrush in a little baggy.

THANK YOU DENTIST!
Tommy is now no longer scared of the dentist and enjoys his visits every six months. He also makes sure that he brushes every spot of his and gums to prevent any more plaque or gingivitis. The dentist is a helpful way to keep your teeth squeaky clean.
