8A // Technology Terms :-)

Computer Networking: A computer network is a set of computers connected together for the purpose of sharing resources.
Hubs: Hubs and switches serve as a central connection for all of your network equipment and handles a data type known as frames.

Packet: A piece of a message transmitted over a packet-switching network.
Network Routers: A router is a networking device that forwards data packets between computer networks.

Local Area Network (LAN): technologies connect many devices that are relatively close to each other, usually in the same building.
Switches or Switching Hub: A network switch (also called switching hub, bridging hub, officially MAC bridge) is a computer networking device that connects devices on a computer network by using packet switching to receive, process, and forward data to the destination device.
Wide Area Network (WAN): technologies connect a smaller number of devices that can be many kilometers apart.
Twisted Pair Cable: A type of cable that consists of two independently insulated wires twisted around one another.

Node: A node is anything that is connected to the network.
Coaxial Cables: A type of wire that consists of a center wire surrounded by insulation and then a grounded shield of braided wire.

Media Access Control(MAC): This is the physical address of any device.
Fiber Optics: A technology that uses glass (or plastic) threads (fibers) to transmit data.

IP Address: identifier for a computer or device on a TCP/IP network.
Wireless Network: wireless is the term used to describe any computer network where there is no physical wired connection between sender and receiver, but rather the network is connected by radio waves and/or microwaves to maintain communications.

Bus Topology: All devices are connected to a central cable, called the bus or backbone. Bus networks are relatively inexpensive and easy to install for small networks. Ethernet systems use a bus topology.
Main Distribution Frame: a cable rack that interconnects and manages the telecommunications wiring between itself and any number of IDFs.
