Myers, G. David. Myers' Psychology for AP. Second

The final end of the year activity will be a scavenger hunt. Your goal is to find all of the vocabulary words to win!

Classroom
Playground
Pool
Teacher's Lounge
This is the map you will follow:
Meditation Room
Theater
Library
Music Room

You will need to find the following words:
Behaviorism Self-Control Primary Reinforcer Punishment
Operant Conditioning Cognitive Learning Operant Behavior
Intrinsic Motivation Habituation Extrinsic Motivation
Associative Learning Learning Fixed-Interval Schedule
Classical Conditioning Stimulus Fixed-Ratio Schedule
Variable-Ratio Schedule Insight Variable-Interval Schedule
Negative Reinforcement Coping Positive Reinforcement
Observational Learning Modeling Learning Helplessness
Learning Motivation Intrinsic Locus Control
Extrinsic Locus Control

This scavenger hunt will be so much fun! I want to win.
I know! Me too, Timmy!

Let the scavenger hunt begin!
YAY!
Hurry!
Go!

I'm going to go to the pool first!

Classical Conditioning
Behaviorism
Operant Conditioning

I wonder where
the words may be...

Behaviorism
I found "behaviorism"!

Classical Conditioning
Operant Conditioning
Behaviorism is a learning theory that all behaviors are learned through conditioning!
An example is a dog can learn what is right and what is wrong if they are given treats or are punished if they do a certain action.

Operant Conditioning

Classical Conditioning

Here is "Classical Conditioning"!
Classical Conditioning is a learning process where one associates two stimuli to expect a result!
An example is if one plays a sound before they give their dog food and repeat this process for a long time, the dog will expect food whenever it hears that sound!

Operant Conditioning

Yay! I found "Operant Conditioning"!
Operant Conditioning is a learning process where one associates behavior with a positive or negative consequence.
An examples is that if one tells their dog to sit and gives them a treat if they do so, then the dog will learn that they will receive a treat if they sit when they are told to do so.

I'll go to the theater next!
But first I'll review the words that I found at the pool.
Behaviorism
Classical Conditioning Operant Conditioning

Positive Reinforcement
Negative Reinforcement

Primary Reinforcer

It is dark in here, I better get concentrated. I need to find the words in order to win, and fast.

Look at what I found, "positive reinforcement"!
Positive reinforcement is when a behavior or response is strengthened when something is given.
Oh, so like when my mom would give me chocolate bars for cleaning my room!

Another one! Primary reinforcer.
These were the reinforcers that are biologically important.
Oh so, the positive reinforcer from the last example would be my mom.

Wow! Negative reinforcement! When a behavior or response is strengthened by having something taken away.
Like when I would do the dishes in order for my dad to stop nagging.

Now I'll search in the music room. We have many words so far, I hope can find more.

Stimulus
Punishment
Learned Helplessness
Self Control

Look what I found!

Yupi! I found Stimulus!
Stimulus is an object or event that determines or provokes a certain feeling or response.
For example, in a race, the shooting of a gun to the sky would make the athletes run. The shooting would be the stimulus and the running would be the response.

Amazing! I found Learned Helplessness!
Learned helplessness is when someone gives up something that they feel they can't control even if there is a solution to the problem.
For example, a students that has done poorly in math would start to give up and think that he is just bad at math and can never improve when in reality he can seek for help and become better.

Self control! There you are!
Self control is the ability to control ones behavior and emotions.
For example, when you are going through a crisis or a difficult situation you should know how to keep calm and control the situation.

Found Punishment! 15 words left!
Punishment is a change that will the reduce the likelihood of an unwanted response or behavior.
For example, if I were to fight with my brother, my mom would take away my toys so that I do not fight with him again.

I'll go to the playground now! I bet there are many words there! It will be fun!

If I were a word, where would I be?
Learning
Cognitive Learning
Associative Learning
Observational Learning

Learning
Associative Learning
Cognitive Learning

Hooray! I found "Learning"!
Learning is the accession of new knowledge and behavior!
There are different types of learning; there is Associative, Cognitive, and Observational learning.

Associative Learning
Cognitive Learning
Yippee! Here is "Associative Learning"!

Associative learning is the process of learning something with a new stimulus.
An examples is that if a child gets bitten after taking a dog's toy, the child will not try to take the toy away from the dog again.

Yes! I found "Cognitive Learning"!
Cognitive learning is a process that shapes one's behavior with mental information.
Cognitive Learning
An example is when students justify and explain their thinking.

Observational Learning

Here is "Observational Learning"!
Observational learning is a process of learning by observing objects or events.
An example is that if a child sees that one of their siblings got punished for stealing a cookie, the child will not steal a cookie.

Next, I am going to the library!

Where could I find words in a place full of words?
Coping
Modeling
Habituation
Insight

Modeling
I can't believe it, I found the word "Modeling" on the first page of this book!
A method used for learning where people or animals imitate parents, adults, or people with authority and learn through the imitation.
An example is when a baby says their first words, their parents usually repeat the word until the baby says it.

Coping

Wow, I found another word!

Coping is when you use activities and skills to minimize or tolerate stress and conflict.
An example of coping is yoga. Yoga is used to reflect on problems and relax.

Habituation

I found habituation!
Habituation is a decrease in response to stimulus after being exposed to it too often.
An example of habituation is if you hear a new loud sound all the time for a while, at the end the sound will become less and less distracting.

Insight
I can't believe it! I found another word!
Insight is the capability to see or understand something clearly. Usually, intuition is used to do this.
SHHHHHH!
Sorry!
An example of insight is learning about someone's life through their biography.
