
United Nations - October 1945
Tensions decreased as a result of this. The ultimate goal of the organization was to promote world peace among nations. However, they had no military forces like the LoN did.
Made up of ~192 countries.

Iron Curtain - 1945
A "border" between the democratic world and the communist world. Tensions increased after the creation of the Berlin Wall and the invention of the term. The term originated from Winston Churchill, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

The Marshall Plan - April 1948
Formerly called the European Economic Recovery Program, was created by the Congressional Congrigation of the United States to aid Western Europe in the reconstruction of the European economy and government systems.

Berlin Airlift - June 1948
After the split of Germany into East and West, Berlin was also split between the allies and the axis powers. After Soviet Forces blocked the routes to West Berlin from Western Europe, the Marshall Plan was forced to drop supplies via air. Tensions increased due to this.

Truman Doctrine - July 1948
A US plan to counterattack Soviet Development in Europe. Increased tensions between the US and Soivet Union extremely. Announced by President Truman.

Chinese Communism - October 1949
Chinese Communism's civil war secluded supporters of Democracy and Communists. Supporters of Democracy eventually escaped to Taiwan and founded the Chinese Free Republic. Increased Intentions.

Arms Race - 1949
Countries all around the world raced to create the best military technology. Whether it be Atomic Bombs, missiles, or military training. The race didn't stop. Tensions increased.

NATO - 1949 & Warsaw Pact - 1955
Miilitary Alliances that agreed to aide each other in war efforts. Increased tensions with Soviet Russia, but unified North America and Europe.

Korean War - June 1950
The Korean war divided Korea along the 38th parallel of the Korean Peninsula. South Korea, backed by a US Democratic System, was fighting against Soviet supported Communist regime. Tensions increased substantially.

Space Race (Sputnik, Armstrong) - 1955
The space race was between the USSR and the United States. The goal was to be the first person to launch something into space, and then to send a human to the moon. Tensions rose.

Vietnam War - November 1955
The Vietnam War was fought between a communist backed Viet Cong, and the South Vietnamese Republic, which was capitalist supported. This caused tensions to rise between the USSR and the United States.

Berlin Wall - August 1961
The Berlin Wall was erected to separate East and West Berlin. The cause for the wall to go up was increasing tensions between Capitalist West Berlin and Communist East Berlin, both supported by the respective superpowers.
