Known as the first female doctor of Turkey, Safiye Ali was born on 2 February 1894. Her family was a highly-respected family. Her father was Ali Kırat Pasha and her mother’s name was Emine Hasene. Her family paid attention to her education. Safiye Ali also took out-of-school education and she struggled to learn English, French, German and Italian. Safiye Ali had the dreams that were beyond the realities of Turkey in those days.

She had desired to be a doctor. In that time, women were not allowed to be a doctor. Only the women who had their license in medicine abroad could be a doctor. The majority of these were non-Muslims. Despite all these struggles, she did her best, followed her dreams and achieved the goals she had specified before.

In order to be a doctor, Safiye Ali had to take her training out of Turkey. Considering all the conditions of that time, it was really hard for women to achieve their dreams. Despite all struggles, she had taken a risk and went to Germany. In 1921, she accomplished her education by completing her paper which has the title “About the bleeding of Inner Pakimenjit in Infants”. After she had taken the medicine exam in Berlin, she was qualified to her job and she returned to Istanbul.
She was the first woman who took her license in medicine outside of Turkey, but she was not satisfied with her training. She stayed in Istanbul for about six weeks and after that, to specialize in medicine, she went to Wurzburg Julius-Maximillians University in Germany and she specialized in gynecological diseases and pediatric diseases. As a young woman who had her medicine training in Germany, Safiye Ali became the first doctor of Turkish Republic after she was given the permission in 1923.
Safiye Ali was a doctor of German and American embassies in the early days of her professional life. However, her goal was not to act as a doctor in the field. She was also aiming to share her knowledge. She has taught obstetrics and gynecology at the Medical Department of American College of Obstetrics during her career, she showed children a distinct sensitivity. Safiye Ali was not satisfied with her work here, but was willing to serve in the country's needs. Especially try out the responsibility arising from this sensitivity alone, the Crescent-i Ahmer Society first served in the small children's office, then in the milk drop where the patronage-I Etfal was founded.

Safiye Ali had the opportunity to represent her country by carrying her knowledge and representation in the medical world to international academic congresses. She was involved in three different international congresses in Istanbul during her career. One of them is the Congress of the Beynelmilel women's Doctors Association, which was held in London, attended by 300 doctors from 18 different countries. She was included in the 25-person Delegate Assembly for the selection of the topics to be raised in this Congress and her work was appreciated
