-Men that were with children, had physical issues, or attended college

It was different not being a conventional war, many gases and chemicals were dropped
Why did the Tet Office change the public perception of the war?
It shocked the population and people had more support of the war

1968
Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated on April 1968 in Mephis, Tennessee. He was standing on a balcony of his motel and was shot by James Earl Ray. He was rushed to the hospital but did not survive the gun shot.
Booby Kennedy was fatally shot on June 6th 1968. He was assassinated in Las Angelos, Califorina by Sirhan Sirhan


1968
The Tet Offense began on January 30th 1968. This was a series of North Vietnamese attacks on many different cities and outposts in South Vietnam. It was designed to help the South population. The U.S. and the South Vietnamese were able to hold off attacks. North Vietnam still came out with a huge victory.

Walter Cronkite observed the progress throughout the war. His newscasts help shape the opinion of the citizens. He wanted to see it himself and report exactly what he saw he would not report what anybody else would tell him. While reporting what he saw he also tried to correct his impression he made.many people believed his newscasts.

1960's culture
A hippie is someone that promoted peace. Most hippies during the time period did not like president Johnson or NIxon because they were violent. They didn't like how the United states sent troops into Vietnam.
Drugs- LSD is a hallucinogenic drug and marijuana are very commonly used by hippies during this time period.

Civil rights movement- This is a time period were people are fighting for equality. The segregation had to be eliminated.
Politics- Many influential speakers, presidents, and other people are assassinated. Also a big thing going on that play a big role in politics are the Cuban Missle Crisis and the space race.

Later Years in Vietnam
President Nixon used his Vietnmization for the Vietnam war. This was building of the south forces and taking the United States troops out. U.S. agreed to remove troops within 60 days as long as there was immediate cease-fire.
At Kent State University 4 students were killed and nine were injured by the Ohio National Guard while being in a crowd to protest Vietnam

Later Years in Vietnam
The My Lai Massacure was significant because it was on the most terrible events against civilians. American soldiers came into this village killing women, children, and old man. More than 500 people were killed. In trial only one man was found guilty. His name was William Calley and he murdered 22 unarmed civilians.
the U.S. left Vietnam on March 29th 1973. When the soldiers got home they weren't know as being heroic. They were known as monsters.

Later Years in Vietnam
Over a million people died or were wounded in the Vietnam war and the United States spent 168 billion dollars.
