This is dedicated to all parents like myself that have a child with these disorders.
This book will be focused on my four-year-old, daughter, Madison.

When a child, like Madison has a disability they may learn at different speeds, because of becoming overwhelmed or frustrated. But even though they learn slower they will still need to try to make their age appropriate cognitive and language development. In this book I will discuss, what is expected for her age group, and then an example of where she is at because of her disability.
One cognitive development that should be reached by no later than five-years-old, is stated by WebMd (2019), "Copy a triangle, circle, square, and other shapes" (para. 8).
But if your Madison, you may not have interest in this or have the patients. Madison tends to get very upset and overwhelmed because her anxiety and OCD. Madison at the age of four can only make a circle. But with the help of Occupational Therapy, Madison should accomplish this.

A second cognitive skill kids should be doing by the age at least five is, have a greater attention span.
But with kids like Madison, their attention span tends to be very short. She will break down in a horrible meltdown, if she is stuck at once spot to long, even just in the car ride.

A third cognitive skill is being able to understand two to three part directions from an adult.
While Madison, younger and older sister are able to do this. Most of the time, this will make Madison upset. Madison is best with one part and some two part directions.

Lastly, a forth cognitive learning for a four to five-year-old is, peddling a tricycle.
With children like Madison, many are nervous or scared to get on a bike. But this spring, Madison not only accomplished riding a big girl bike, but she also rides without training wheels. But we think it is because she seeks to go fast, and she see's the older kids could go faster without training wheels.

When it comes to four and five-year-olds, many have elementary school ready language skills. One skill a child at this age should have is, using words to express their emotions (No Author. 2014).
But children with SPD, OCD, and Anxiety may have trouble using words to show emotions. For an example, Madison screams at the top of her lungs and cries while throwing herself to the ground in a meltdown.
