Dedicated to all the children with Dyselxia

Hi! My name is Bobby, and I am eight years old. Today is my first day of second grade. I am excited to meet new friends and my new teachers. The bus pulls up to my driveway just in time. Off to school I go!
It wasn’t long until my bus pulled up to my school, and I started to get nervous, because I am a little different than other kids. I have a hard time reading and sounding out words. My mom says that I have dyslexia, and that is why I can’t read as well other kids my age. I wonder how my new teachers are going to help me this year. I walk to my classroom and step through the door.

A dark-haired lady with short hair was waiting to greet me. She said, “Hi, my name is Mrs. Johnson, and I’m going to be your teacher this year. Are you ready for your first day of second grade?” Still feeing a little nervous, I said, “Yes ma’am”. Mrs. Johnson gave me a warm smile and said, “I am excited to help you this year Bobby, I know that you will do great”. Suddenly, I didn’t feel so nervous anymore.

I went and found the desk with the name “Bobby” taped on it and sat down. Maybe this year I will do great, I thought to myself. Mrs. Johnson went to the front of the classroom once everyone was settled and introduced herself to the rest of the class. “I can’t wait to watch each and every one of you learn and grow this year!”, said Mrs. Johnson. After she took attendance, we were ready to start the day.

Starting our first lesson, Mrs. Johnson hands out each of us a book. But suddenly my worst fear started to happen. The words on the paper started to float around like a limbo line. I look around and see all my classmates scanning over the paper with no worries. As long as this would not be a read aloud I would be happy.

As soon as the thought left my mind, Mrs. Johnson announces that we popcorn read the paper. I soon began to worry, how am I supposed to read if the words move. The time came closer and closer for me to read. I could feel my heart beating fifty miles an hour.
“Bobby, it’s your time to read go ahead”. I took a big gulp and begin to read the line. “Knowledge is p”. For some reason the word floated away before I could read it. I quickly begin to panic and look at my teacher for help. Mrs.Johnson looks at me with confusing, and begins to finish the line for me. I let out a breath.
