Damon Barklay was the lead singer of the highly successful '90s rock band, Sonic Barbarian. The band was together for about 5 years before Damon decided to pursue a solo career. Damon was loud, proud, and quite arrogant. His debut record was a disaster and the self-proclaimed "World's Awesomest Guy" ended up being relegated to performing at bake sales and bowling alleys. After seeing his former band mates prospering with their new lead singer, Damon decided it was time for a comeback.

Unfortunately, Damon was yesterday's news. No record companies wanted to sign him and nobody wanted to manage his career. After having door after door closed on him, Damon finally found someone who believed in him. That person was Rowland Fairey, a former one-hit wonder from the 1980s. Fairey was now in the music agent business, kinda. Damon was going to be the first talent to sign with his agency, Pretty Baby Talent. "Damon, I'm gonna make you a star again. You're gonna be the biggest rock star in the world!" "I deserve it Rowland. Where's my first gig? London? New York?" "Um, The Arctic Circle." "What???????"

AURORA MUSIC FESTIVAL

Rowland had booked Damon to perform at 'The Aurora Festival' a 3 night concert featuring over 20 musical acts. Despite his reluctance to fly all the way to the bitter cold Arctic Circle, Damon agreed to participate in the show. When they landed the pair learned that the other 19 bands canceled at the last minute once they found out that the festival was a farce. A livid Damon confronted his new manager, "This is a disaster. I'm not making my big comeback in the middle of nowhere. It's freezing col here and it looks like the venue is empty." "Give it a shot babe. Whaddya have to lose?" a nervous Rowland responded.

An enraged Damon took to the stage to play for what looked like about 10 people. Turns out 2 of them were actually snowmen. Each song was met with silence and a few yawns. People started to slowly make their way to the exit. With ice starting to form on his beard, his fingers on the verge of frostbite, Damon decided to rock harder than he's ever rocked before. He turned the amplifiers on the stage up to 11 and launched into a blistering guitar solo. A loud rumbling noise began to shake the entire venue as chunks of ice fell from the ceiling. The music was so loud that it triggered an avalanche which soon covered the club in a mountain of snow.

As Damon struggled to escape from the snow-covered nightclub, his manager had already fled the scene. Rowland hopped aboard his plane leaving Damon to fend for himself in the cold and unforgiving Arctic. Somehow Damon was able to dig his way out of his mountain of snow that had engulfed the club. "Where is everyone?" He cried out for help but could only hear his voice echoing back at him. Things looked pretty bleak for the former rock star as he had no food, supplies, or shelter. Plus he was not dressed for such a harsh climate. Rather than waiting for assistance that may or may not arrive, Damon decided to venture into the icy wilderness in search of shelter from the elements.

Damon walked for what felt like hours as the wind howled with the blistering cold stinging his face. It was starting to snow harder and the rocker was lost in the middle of nowhere. "I've been walking in this winter wasteland for miles. There is nothing here. It's nothing but miles and miles of snow and ice. Climate change? Yeah right. I could go for a little global warming right about now." "How dare you!" a voice shouted out. "Who said that?" Damon asked unable to see through the swirling gusts of snow. "I'm right in front of you. Look harder." "I can't see anything!" "Try harder!"

"Down here. My name is Ulla Hagerström but you can call me Ulla." "You're just a kid. What are doing all by yourself here in the Artic?" "It's pronounced Arctic and I'm here to save polar bears." "By yourself?" "No, that's why I need help." "Well, good luck with that. Can you point me in the direction of the nearest town?" "You will be given plenty to eat and drink as well as a warm place to sleep." "Cool." "Right after Bjorn and I bring you back to the cave." "Bjorn? Who's Bjorn?"

"Bjorn is my friend and colleague. He's also right behind you." "Cool! A polar bear.........polar bear!!!!" "Don't worry, he's usually harmless." "Usually?" "He gets grouchy when he's hungry or sleepy. I'm here to help Bjorn and his family. His wife is going to give birth to cubs any day now but they need food and shelter. Most of their habitat is disappearing and Bjorn is worried that he won't be able to provide for his family." Damon stood there with his eyes wide open, mouth agape staring at the massive polar bear. "So here's the deal, you help me with Bjorn and I'll help you find a way home. Deal?" Damon stood silently unable to move. "I'll take that as a yes."

"Hej Frida. Hur mår du?" "You speak polar bear?" Damon asked. "No, Silly, it's Swedish. I told them that you are going to help Bjorn while I look after Frida." "I don't know about this. I think I'm better off on my own." "It's going to be -45 degrees outside tonight. Good luck!" "Alright, I'll stay. Where will I be sleeping?" Damon asked. Cold, hungry, and tired Damon devoured his supper. "You seem to have enjoyed that" Ulla noticed. "It was delicious. What was it?" "Blubber and wild berries." Damon's face dropped when he found out what he had just consumed. "It is almost time to sleep. Tomorrow you will join Bjorn to gather more food and supplies, Ja?" "Uh, Ja" Damon nodded.
