Parkinson's disease is an illness that affects the part of your brain that controls the movement in your body. Over time, what starts as a little shakiness in your hand can have an impact on how you walk, talk, sleep, and think.

affects nerve cells in the brain called the basal ganglia and the substantia nigra. Nerve cells in the substantia nigra are responsible for relaying messages that plan and control body movement.

Who's more likely to get affected?
People who are 60 or older are more likely to suffer from Parkinson's disease. it can also affect those who are younger, but it isn't common.

Muscular: stiff muscles, difficulty standing, difficulty walking, difficulty with bodily movements, involuntary movements, muscle rigidity, problems with coordination, rhythmic muscle contractions, slow bodily movement, or slow shuffling gait
Side effects:
-Tremor: can occur at rest, in the hands, limbs, or can be postural
-Whole body: fatigue, dizziness, poor balance, or restlessness
-Cognitive: amnesia, confusion in the evening hours, dementia, or difficulty thinking and understanding

-Sleep: daytime sleepiness, early awakening, nightmares, restless sleep, or sleep disturbances
-Speech: difficulty speaking, soft speech, or voice box spasms
-Nasal: distorted sense of smell or loss of smell

The side effects of parkinsons disease aren't ideal, but there are some treatments that can help...
-Medications: Dopamine promoter, Antidepressant, Cognition-enhancing medication, and Anti-Tremor
-Self-care : Physical exercise
-Specialists: Neurologist and Primary care provider (PCP)
