Hello! My name is Kayla. I live in a small community out in the country. I love living in the country. There is so much to do, like exploring, going fishing, and playing outside.

This is my dog. Her name is Poncho. She is my best friend. I have had her since she was a puppy.

Poncho is my best friend. I remember one time when I was very scared. A bad thunderstorm was coming our way.

I was outside playing, as I always do. Suddenly the sky turned very dark. Everything got very quiet. I felt cold. Why was I cold? It was a spring day, I shouldn't be cold. I looked around. The sky was dark, and the wind began to blow. I was scared, I wanted to go home.

I gathered my stuff and started home. I hurried as fast as I could. I hoped I could get home before it go too bad. I was hurrying as fast as I could. My heart was pounding against my chest. What would happen if I don't make it home quickly?

Before I made it home, the rain started falling! It was a downpour! The rain was so heavy it was blinding! I shivered as the cold drops pricked me. I had to find shelter.

As I was looking for a place to stay until the rain stopped, I saw a cabin in the distance. I didn't know who lived there, but I knew I had to get out of the rain.

The wind was roaring, the rain was getting heavier, and the thunder was popping! Through the crackling thunder, roaring wind, and rain I could hear my heart beating! I was cold, scared, and drenched. The cabin looked so cozy and warm. I stopped for a moment, should I go to the cabin?

Just as quickly as I stopped, lightening lit up the sky and the earth shook with the loudest clap of thunder I had ever heard! As I stood, almost paralyzed, my heart skipped a beat as if to tell me I needed to hurry in out of the storm!

I glanced behind me. The storm had engulfed everything! It was as if my only hope at safety was in the cabin. The storm was raging! Suddenly I felt very alone. If only Poncho was with me, I needed her.
