The way exams take place nowadays have changed greatly in comparison with the past
30-40 years ago, there were two main exams for students, one at the eighth grade, and other at the end of tenth.
Both were obligatory if you wanted to pass to next level of studying as university or college.
The exams were taking place in both oral and written ways, depending on the subject. The written exams were rolling in the same way as the exams from the present, but were considerably harder, while the oral one took place in a front of an audience formed by teachers.
Today, there are 3 main exams for students. First in fourth grade, second in ninth, and the last and most important in twelfth one. Nowadays, exams take place in grand halls, where are about one hundred students who are prepared to write the exams. The oral exam have disappeared, which i think is for better.

Exams are a way to check how prepared are pupils for the next level or well they learn the subjects for a year or more. In the previous century pupils had exams at the end of the 8th form and after the 10th form the final exams. They had exams in National Language, Maths and History. This century the pupils have exams after each school level: at the end of the 4th form, then at the end of the 9th form and Baccalaureate exams at the end of the 12th form. They should have exam in languages(foreign and national) history or maths (depending on profile of the class) and one exam they can choose, The pupils have only written exams and no oral one, which were in the previous century.

With diligent study and understanding, you will succeed in passing all your exams.
