To our favorite Anatomy & Physiology teacher,
Mrs. Angerami. We miss you!

Hello, kids! And my name is Edward, but you can call me Eddie!
Hi, my name is Elena and we are here to show you how the heart works even while in quarantine!

Even though we are stuck at home, there are several activities that you can do to get the heart pumping. Some fun exercises that you can do are running, going on a walk, biking or playing games with your family.

During these activities, your cardiovascular system and respiratory system are mainly affected. The heart is on the left side and helps blood flow throughout your body! In order to get your blood to flow through your heart, the left and right side of your heart need to work together as a team!

The heart has a part called the right atrium! What is it you ask? It is where the blood that contains oxygen and travels around your body in order to keep it working. This oxygen consisting blood then returns back to your pumping heart where it goes to the right atrium to tubes called pulmonary arteries that helps the blood go on its path away from your heart and to your lungs!

During this self quarantine, I have found a new hobby: running! Running can be connected to the health of the cardiovascular system by how running more often can help lower cholesterol levels in your blood, resting heart rate, and blood pressure.
Fun fact: running longer distances makes your heart much more better than other people's!

For your respiratory system, your lungs are apart of your chest. There are two lungs on either side of your heart, where the left lung remains smaller than the right. Working with your circulatory system, the respiratory system circulates oxygen and blood throughout your body. Then, the blood moves in and out of your lungs through your pulmonary veins and arteries that are connected to your heart.

While in quarantine, I have discovered the power of exercising, such as running. While running, your heart rate increases, which then increases the rate of your breathing. This is to ensure that more oxygen is absorbed into your bloodstream. Not to mention, exercising keeps your body healthy and happy!

Your lymphatic system is also included in all of these complicated processes! This system helps your body fight off any germs that enter your body.

Oops I just stumbled upon a rock and tripped! The lymphatic system comes to the rescue. This system helps your body fight off any germs that come crawling your way. If you scrape your knee, platelets and blood cells combine and help the blood from clotting. Platelets also exert chemicals that heal the scrape. The lymphatic system acts as a defense against any unwanted materials and antibodies.
