We learned many wonderful things in our library classes this year.

Our lessons were connected with the homeroom units of inquiry as well as our library standards, meaning the important things we needed to learn about books, resources and information in the library.

We learned about our library expectations which we called " 3B's" that included :

How to be respectful in the library.

How to be responsible in the library.

How to be safe in the library.

We also learned about how to take care of books and materials as well as being more independent in using all the wonderful resources in the library.

We also learned about the library online catalog " Destiny Follette" that helped us to search books we wanted to read and also to find the shelves in the library where these books are available.

This year, we also learned something new called " Dewy Decimal System".

The Dewey Decimal System is a way to put books in order by subject. It places the books on the shelf by subject using numbers from 000 to 999. It is called "decimal" because it uses numbers to the right of the decimal point for more detail (e.g. 944.1 for History of Brittany).

We read both fiction and non-fiction books related to our units of inquiry and we read to get information and also for fun during our library classes, check out classes, morning and lunch recesses and after school.

The library was always open and welcoming for teachers and students to come and read at anytime!

We learned about many aspects of books and reading like parts of books, elements of fiction and non-fiction books, reading responses, book reviews, reading extension activities and presenting what we learned.

We also had virtual school towards the end of the school year and grade 1 students did a fantastic job by not only checking in for their classes but putting a lot of effort and hard work to produce high quality work!
