I am dedicating my Poem Anthology to my mom because throughout my life she has been the biggest supporter for myself and my siblings.
Day by day you have done so much for us even when some things seem impossible. Who I am today is solely because of you and to that I thank you. You are truly my best friend & I love you.

I Am Poem: Love in Every Form
I am a supporter of LGBTQ+ rights
I wonder how people can be so barbaric
I hear the ruthless comments thrown at them
I see the overcritical looks they get for expressing themselves
I want people to lift each other up and not be so quick to judge
I am not seeing respect
I pretend to not hear the repellent remarks
I feel for those who are in the middle of this never-ending whirlwind
I worry that there will never be an end
I cry for the tears shed at the end
I am there for them when they feel as if nobody is
I understand that not everyone will be in support
I say this is absurd
I dream that the world one day be filled with positivity at every corner
I try to make them feel like they are welcomed
I hope that this hatred will one day finally come to a halt
I am seeing people as who they are and not what others want them to be

I Am Poem: Response
I wrote my I Am poem on the topic of LGBTQ+ because one of my closest friends and many people that I know in my life are different sexualities. Some of the stories I have heard from these people are hard to listen to as the problems that are occurring are still happening in current days. I emphasize on my line stating "I understand that not everyone will be in support" because in reality some people genuinely do not feel they can be supportive and that is completely understandable. However, the main point, and my stance, of this poem is that while understanding not everyone has to support anyone apart of LGBTQ+, being rude and using harmful language towards them also shouldn't be acceptable.

Bio Poem: Diana Boyd
Diana
Entertaining, loving, kind-hearted, shy
Sister of Aiden, Jaylon, Jayda, and Deven
Lover of my mom, Jhene Aiko, and The Weeknd
Who feels extravagant when new music albums are released, grateful to have a best friend relationship with my mom, and inferior like a lion catching its prey after winning an argument with my siblings
Who needs more sleep, to get tan again, and to try Dunkin Donuts coffee
Who gives love, sarcasm, and support to friends
Who fears all bugs, public speaking, and exotic roller coasters
Who would like to see Bora Bora, Bahamas, Bali
Resident of San Diego, California
Boyd

Bio Poem: Response
In this poem, a poetic device I used was in the line "inferior like a lion catching its prey after winning an argument with my siblings." This poetic device is a simile comparing the feeling of winning an argument to a lion finally being able to tackle it's prey. I used this comparison because arguing with anyone, especially a sibling, is irritating but when you get the last word it feels good. In relation, I imagined a lion waiting long to find its next meal and the satisfaction of successfully getting it. I also used alliteration, letters belonging to the same sound group, with "Bora Bora, Bahamas, Bali" which are all places I would like to visit one day.

Re-Creation Poem: The Light of Christmas
The kids ran in with smiles
So bright. Coats and gloves tiered
The steps up high. Beneath lay the tree
And on top, a star burned yellow.
As they gathered, chocolate was prominent
Along the lining of their lips. Scattered among
The floor laying ready to unwrap, are the
Countless gifts. For the sky through the window
Beamed ever so gray beneath the fog,
it was such a beautiful Christmas day.
Re-Creation Poem: Response
The setting of this poem is imagined to be in a warm house on christmas day. I picked christmas because it is my favorite holiday and I enjoy it every year with my family. When I was younger we would celebrate at my grandparents house almost word for word how this poem is told, especially with the large amounts of gifts surrounding the tree. The poetic device I used in this poem was imagery, " a star burned yellow", along with the highlighted words from Gary Soto's poem "Oranges".
Stylistic Immitation Poem: Aiden Brian Boyd
At nine twenty-three in the evening
It was exactly at nine twenty-three in the evening
A birth to a new baby boy was in play
At nine twenty-three in the evening
Nurses checked back into the room
At nine twenty-three in the evening
Contractions had begun to make her spin
At nine twenty-three in the evening
The pain was coming in as rapid as a thousand crashing waves
At nine twenty-three in the evening
The epidural entered into her spine
At nine twenty-three in the evening
The feeling of a pinch following a burning sensation
At nine twenty-three in the evening
The doctors were heard screaming “Push, push, push!”
At nine twenty-three in the evening
And with one last push and her feet in a curl
At nine twenty-three in the evening
A nine-pound, two-ounce baby was welcomed to the world
At nine twenty-three in the evening
Imitation of Federico Garcia Lorca’s style in his poem “Llanto por Ignacio Sanchez Mejias”
Stylistic Immitation Poem: Response
The setting of this poem is the hospital room where my mom gave birth to my brother. This poem holds meaning to me because my brother and I have a very close bond that some siblings do not get to have. My mom gave me the idea to use this topic and gave me input on how her experience was to create this. The poetic devices used were: simile with "as rapid as a thousand crashing waves", rhyme with "curl" and "world", and alliteration with "push, push, push".
Definition Poem: Yikes
Nervous: [nur-vuhs], adjective, singular nerve
Easily agitated or alarmed; tending to be anxious
When I have to do a presentation;
When I feel the students staring at me as I speak
When I eat in front of strangers; when I eat with my family or close friends
When I did not glue in my WOW sheets even though Ms. Bachmann told us to
And there is a notebook check the next day
When it is my turn to order and I do not know what I want
When I get called on during a daydream and turning as red as a tomato
When my mom yells at me with anger like a colony of red ants when kicked at
