This book is dedicated to my children, and families of children all over the world.

One Morning, Lucas woke up feeling awful.
He called for his Mom to come check on him because he felt so bad. When she got there, she felt his forehead and said, "Oh no, I think you have a fever!"
His Mom grabbed the thermometer and checked his temperature.
Just as I thought, said Mom, "You do have a fever, you must be sick!"
Lucas was worried because he didn't know how this happened but he knew he didn't want to ever feel like this again!
Mom said it was time to head to the Dr's Office.
When Lucas and his Mom arrived at the Dr, he was a little worried but the Dr told him that he was going to help him feel better.
This made Lucas feel a little more comfortable so he let the Dr check him out.
As the Dr was finishing his check up he told Lucas and his Mom that he is sick, but it could be worse. Today, Lucas only has a minor "cold."
"I HATE this!" Said Lucas.
The Dr reassured him he will feel better in a few days but he must get plenty of rest and drink lots of liquids.
The Dr sat down next to Lucas and said, "I really like when I get to see you but I do not like when you are sick. That is why I'd like to talk to you about how you can prevent yourself and others from getting sick in the future."
Lucas was excited to learn some ways to stay health and NEVER feel like this again!
As the Dr mentioned, the best way Lucas can get better is to get plenty of rest and drink lots of fluids. However, that's not all he should do.
The Dr explained to Lucas, "The best way to prevent the spread of illness is to stay home until you are well again. This helps you heal and prevents others from catching your illness."
"Lucas, the first thing you can do to prevent sickness form spreading to others is to cover your cough and your sneeze."
When people sneeze, their saliva gets spread into the air. Sometimes if people are close by, they may breathe in this air. If you are sick, your sickness can get into their airways and infect them as well.
Being mindful of others is important in preventing the spread of illness and this is a good first step.
