“All things must change to something new, to something strange.”
– Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

A solitary figure walks across the frozen tundra of the Northwest Territories in Canada. The bitter wind chills him to the bone but there is no place to seek shelter. The snow crunches underneath his boots with every step. It's the only sound that can be heard as he is looks around and sees nothing but miles of icy terrain. This is Ben. But how did he get here? This is his story.

The last thing Ben remembers was him dominating on the soccer pitch. He had scored twice and was looking for the hat trick when he was roughly fouled from behind. Ben rolled around in agony clutching his ankle in pain before he blacked out. He was carried out on a stretcher by the school's medical staff. He must've been hurt pretty bad as he didn't even touch his juice box..

For the next couple of weeks, Ben drifted in and out of consciousness. One morning he was awoken by a strange man levitating in front of him. That man's name was Incognito. He is the leader of a group of super-villains called The Freaks of Nature. Ben rubbed his eyes as he slowly began to sit up in bed. "Who are you?" he growled. "Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Incognito and I have come to personally recruit you to join our war." "What war?" "Allow me to explain" Incognito continued.

"May I present to you The Freaks of Nature, a group of unique individuals that have been cast out by their friends, family, and the rest of society." "Meh" Ben mumbled to the odd yet dangerous assortment of characters standing before him. "So what's your big plan anyway?" he asked. "We are planning to blow stuff up, destroy cities, and punish mankind for not accepting us." "I kinda feel the same way too sometimes" Ben nodded. "And this collection of superhuman beings wouldn't be complete without the knowledge and cunning of this guy.........."

"The Human Calculator!" "I'd prefer it if you called me Delbert." "Uh, sure. Ben, this is Delbert." "This wimp?" "Brains before brawn my friend. After we destroy the world, we're going to give them math homework for the rest of their lives. What a deliciously evil plan, huh?" "Math? GRRRRRRRRRR!" Ben lunged at Delbert who fell to the ground. "Easy Ben! He's got a cello recital on Thursday. Save that rage for our reign of terror. Now suit up! You'll find your new outfit in the top right drawer of the dresser. You will enter that room as Ben but will exit as..........................."

"What is this? I said the right drawer Ben, not the left one. That one belongs to Dan Mazur. Yikes! He's such a weirdo. Now get back in there and put on the costume we designed for you." "Alright. But can I keep the glasses at least?" "No!" an irritated Incognito snapped. Ben disappeared into the other room and when he emerged he had become............

BENVERINE!

The Freaks of Nature were ready to strike! Actually they had to turn back because Delbert forgot his bus pass but after that it was time for devastation! "Alright my freaks, it is time to show the world what we can do. Behind me is The Independence Citadel, home to the most elite military recruits in the world. On my command, unleash your fury!" The Freaks of Nature quickly destroyed The Citadel and vanquished the troop leaving fire and chaos in their wake. Ben stood there unsure about what his role in this attack was. "Dear BENVERINE, I didn't forget about you. I see some Robo-troops heading your way. Take them out!"

Ben still wasn't exactly sure what his powers were but he was anxious to find out. He ended up taking a lot of heavy blows from the Robo-troops and yet he was able to instantly recover. Filled with blind rage, BENVERINE ripped into action destroying an entire army of robots by himself. He sliced and diced his way to victory using his strength, speed, and long sharp claws that jutted out from his hands. Still in awe at what he had done, Ben stood crouched down and took a deep breath. "Enjoy your handiwork BENVERINE as we have only just begun!" Incognito crowed. "We will no longer be ignored. The world is ours for the taking! Now hurry up, we have a bus to catch!"

As Ben waited along with his fellow Freaks of Nature, he noticed that he was developing heightened senses. He could hear the sounds coming from the busy city streets. "Sniff, sniff. What is that stench?" he barked. "Oh sorry, BENVERINE that's my lunch. Would you like a bite of my egg salad sandwich?" Delbert offered. Ben glared at the junior math whiz as his claws began to jut out from his hands. "Ben? Can you hear me? This is Professer Xander Honor. Are you there?" "Leave me alone!" Ben shouted. "Who are you taking to?" Delbert inquired. "It's nothing. Eat your stinky sandwich." Ben would continue to hear that same voice in his head all the way home. But who was Professor Xander Honor? And what did he want?"

"Who were you trying to communicate with Professor Honor?" Red Eye wondered. "I'm not sure but I think there may be another person who shares the same unique gifts as we do." "Professor! Professor!" "What is it Ice Cream Man?" "It's Incognito! He and his Freaks of Nature just destroyed a military base. Now he's on television threatening to go after us next." "I feared this would happen. This school is all about teaching beings with superpowers to use those abilities to promote peace on Earth. Incognito has always wanted to use his powers to get revenge on anyone who didn't understand our kind. We'll be ready for him and in this case, we will have to use force."

That night Ben had a terrible time trying to get to sleep. For starters he had to share a room with Delbert who had claimed the top bunk. He kept going up and down from the bed all night after drinking too much Cherry Kool-Aid after supper. Annoyed by Delbert's constantly having to announce that it was 'tinkle time', Ben stormed out of the room and headed outside for some air. Once again he would be contacted by Professor Honor. After looking around for the source of the voice, Ben finally realized that the entire conversation was actually going on inside in his head.
