Willy the worm lives a great life, he eats plenty of soil androams around the garden everyday during spring, summer and fall.

But in the winter they all have a problem! It’s too cold outside for insects to roam around the gardens
so where do they go!?
2
Willy is not used to this, so he decides to ask his friend Molly, the Monarch Butterfly what this is all about, and what most insects do in the winter.

Molly tells him that for the most part insects are able to survive cold temperatures best when the
temperatures are stable. However, there are a variety
of methods that insects use to survive the chilly winters.

3
She first starts by explaining how his family of Silkworms and what they do during winter and how they survive attached to fruit branches
as Pupae. They stay there all winter, and then once spring comes along
they mature into adults.

4
Molly then tells Willy how their friend Danny the Dragonfly survives in the winter, and how his experience
is usually different as a nymph. He lives under the ice of
streams and ponds and eats all winter. Then in spring, just like Willy,
he grows in to an adult!

5
Willy is now starting to understand how insects all survive the winter in different ways. Molly continues to tell him about how some insects get
through the winter as Larvae and how their heavy furry skin like Cathy
the Caterpillar protects them from the cold.

6
Molly then explains that she and her family of Monarch butterflies usually escape the winter by process called migration, meaning they fly
away to warmer places for the winter, until it gets warm again.

7

Molly explains how Honeybees hide in trees and can remain somewhat
active in the winters because they survive off of body heat and the 30
pounds of stored honey they save up. The honey produces heat that is
circulated throughout the hive.

8
Willy now understands how all different type of insects survivesin the winter and the processes in which they go through!
