Although Dulce was a boy and Pal was a dog, they had a special friendship, closer to brotherhood.
They were both the same age. Yet, one
seemed old and the other was young .
They spent all of their time together. Their home
was a little hut on the edge of a small village.
The village was surrounded by cornfields and pastures. In the center of the village was a wind mill .A gray church stood across from the windmill. At the top of the church ,there was an old clock. The clock rang every hour on the hour. It made a strange empty sound.

Dulce had a secret that only Pal knew about. There was an empty hut near his home. In this hut Dulce had drawn many sketches and he couldn't buy any colors. He found chalk and charcoal. He could draw anything in black or white and still make it beautiful.

Dulce heard of a drawing contest. One hundred people would join this contest and the first prize would be 100 dollars!
Dulce believed that this was a great opportunity to improve himself so he began to work very hard indeed. Every night Pal would come into the hut and lie down. He watched Dulce work very hard at his drawing. All Spring Summer and Autumn, Dulce worked on his drawings. The drawings were due on the first of December.
On the morning of the first, Dulce loaded his drawings on to the cart. He left his work at the door of the City Hall as instructed. "Maybe it is a terrible drawing," He thought. "I have never learned anything about art". Dulce walked home that day with many doubts.
It was the night of the 23rd of December. Dulce and Pal slept under the stars without a blanket. The winner of the prize was to be announced very soon. The doors of the building were opened and the crowd moved into the hall. As Dulce entered the room he saw a large drawing on the wall. It was his own! He had won the contest!!!
Dulce was so happy about his work that he began to paint more and more pictures for the hall. Everyone from the town would come to see these pictures. He did this all for free. People raised money to build a beautiful large house for Dulce and Pal to live in and to continue doing the most beautiful paintings in the land.
So Dulce and Pal lived happily together in their new, big house ever after.
