There are five Pillars of Islam. The Pillars of Islam are-

- Shahadah

-Salah

-Zakah 

-Sawm

-Hajj

                     1. Shahadah:

-Shahadah is an Arabic word which means to declare or to testify.

-A Muslim declares his faith by reciting-

أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّٰهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ ٱللَّٰهِ

There is no God, but Allah and Prophet Muhammad (saw) is the messenger of Allah.

                          2. Salah:

-Salah is an act of worship which we perform five times a day.

-The five daily prayers are:

  - Fajr

  - Dhuhr

  - Asr

  - Maghrib

  - Isha

Timings of 5 daily prayers:

Fajr- Dawn, before sunrise.

Dhuhr- Midday, After the sun passes its highest.

Asr- The late part of the afternoon.

Maghrib- Just after sunset

Isha- Between sunset and midnight.

Total Rakas for all prayers:

Fajr- 4

Dhuhr- 12

Asr- 8

Maghrib- 7

Isha- 17

                           Value of Salah:

- The coolness of my eyes lies in Salah.

- The key to paradise is Salah

- Between the servant and disbelief is the omission of Salah.

- Salah offered at its proper time is the best thing in the sight of Allah.

- The first thing that will be asked on the day of judgement is Salah.

- Allah washes and removes sins on the account of 5 daily prayers.

                     Pre-Salah conditions

- The Intention

- Taharah- Purification( body, clothes and place).

- Covering the parts of the body.

- Wudhu

- Facing the Qibla

- Proper Time.

                             Pillars of Salah

The things we do in Salah is called Pillars of Salah.

The Pillars of Salah are:

- Takbiratul Ihraam

- Al Qiyam

- Recitation from the Quran

- Rukoo

- Sajdatain( Two Sajdah )

- Juloos for Tashahud

- To follow the sequences prescribed for the Salah.

          Things that annul a Salah:

- Laughing Loudly

- Eating or drinking

- Speaking of matters not related to Salah.

- Making movement not related to Salah.

- Neglecting any of the Pillars of Islam.

- Annulment of Wudhu.

        Obligatory Steps of Wudhu:

1. Washing the face

2. Washing the hands till the elbow.

3. Wiping the head

4. Washing the feet till the ankles

                   Conditions of Tayammum:

- Water is not available at all.

- Available water is insufficient for Wudhu.

- Use of water is harmful.

If any of these problems are faced, we should do Tayammum.

- Tayammum is a dry Wudhu.

      Obligatory steps of Tayammum:

1. Intention

2. Placing your both hands-on Earth and wiping the whole face.

3. Placing both hands-on Earth and wiping both hands till the elbow.

                                 3. Zakah

- The Arabic word Zakah means to purify or to cleanse.

- Zakah is to be paid once a year on savings.

- It is paid at the rate of 2.5%. This rate applies to Cash, Bank savings, Gold and Silver Jewellery.

 Difference Between Sadaqah and Zakah:

- Every act of Kindness is Sadaqah.

- To settle a quarrel between two persons justly is Sadaqah.

- To remove a harmful thing from the road is Sadaqah.

- To comfort a sorrowful is a Sadaqah.

- To give a drink to a thirsty is Sadaqah.

- Zakah is usually one-fourteenth of a man's riches, while Sadaqah has no limits.

- Zakah is obligatory while Sadaqah is optional.

- Zakah is given once a year while Sadaqah may be given any time.

                                  4. Sawm

- Sawm is an Arabic word which means keep away from something or to refrain.

- In Islamic terminology, it is an act of worship in which a Muslim keeps away from eating, drinking and all types of shameful activities.

- Another word for Sawm is "Siyam".

                       Purpose of Fasting:

- Sawm develops self-control. It helps us to overcome selfishness, greed, laziness and other faults.

- It is an annual training program to refresh us for carrying out our duties towards Allah

- It enables us to experience the difficulties of Hunger and Thirst.

                    Fasting of Aashura:

- Aashura is the tenth day of Muharram.

- Before the fasting of Ramadhan was made Obligatory, the messenger of Allah asked the Muslims to observe the fast of Aashura.

- When the fasting of Ramadhan was made obligatory in 2 Hijri, he made it optional.
