Dedicated to the Creator of the Worlds Best Chocolate

Milton Hershey was a young boy obsessed with his scenes. Milton’s favorite sense was the sense of taste.

Like everyone else Milton loved candy. At the age of 14, Milton started apprenticing for a master confectioner. He loved his work. The smells and the taste exploded with flavor. He wanted everyone to experience the taste of good candy.

Milton loved his job but was getting too old to be an apprentice. At the age of 18, Milton decided he wanted to build his own shop. He wanted to sell his own candy.

Milton borrowed 150 dollars from his Aunt in dreams of owning his own candy shop in the heart of Philadelphia. He wanted to sell his candy to everyone. He wanted the world to experience the taste of pure goodness.

Milton was determined to make his name in the candy world. He wanted everyone to experience his candy.

But no matter how hard he worked, he struggled to sell his candy.

He worked long days, hard days. He made his shop his life. You could say he lived at his shop

Despite all of his efforts he still struggled to sell candy. His shop looked like an abandoned home. His candy was sad.

He decided to close down shop. He was sad, but still thought he would be successful.

Even though Milton’s first attempt had not worked, he still loved candy. He decided to move West to Denver where his father lived.

He thought going back to apprenticing would help him develop the skills he needed to make it in this business. While out in Denver, Milton discovered the ways to make the caramel. Instantly he was hooked on it.

He loved the way the creamy caramel folded and was made. He loved the texture of the gooey creamy caramel. He just loved everything about it.

He wasn’t satisfied working for someone anymore. He wanted to own his own business and make it by himself.

He tried opening a shop up in Chicago. He thought this time things would be different with his business. He failed. Again.

He didn’t know why he was failing. He thought that he changed things. He thought that he finally knew what he needed to do. He thought about whether he should continue in Chicago. But he knew he was going to fail. He realized that and moved his business to New York.

In New York, he thought things would be different. Milton thought that New York was a city where businesses boomed.

He set up shop and started to sell candies to the public. Milton started off selling little amounts of candies. It had started better than his other attempts at businesses.

He kept trying in New York, but couldn’t make enough sales. He packed his bags and he moved into Lancaster Pennsylvania.

Milton decided he wanted a complete caramel store. He decided to start a new business called the Lansdale Caramel Company. He was determined to boom in this industry.

Milton set up his shop in an old factory building on Church Street. He knew this time his company was going to be different. He knew the mistakes he had previously made and he knew when they would come, so he figured out how to avoid them.

Milton didn’t start off as well as he wanted to. It was hard to obtain the credit purchase for all of his raw ingredients because he had minimal profit and it was hard to get loans.

Milton got a ginormous order of his caramel candies from a British Candy shop. He didn’t have enough money to buy all the ingredients so he went to the bank for a loan.

The bank teller was amazed at the size of this order and gave Milton the money he needed. Milton was so excited that he got the money he ran down the street with his apron on.

Milton was finally seeing some success! From here on out Milton kept growing rapidly.

Milton needed more and more space. He purchased a small house from his Aunt. Then he even had to buy outside of Landcaster in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania.
