Chapter 1: The Enchanted Gem
Lizard stood upon a large dune. He shivered, feeling like he was being watched.. His sister, Scorpion, was out hunting. Lizard was tasked with the job to make a shelter. Suddenly, he glimpsed a flash of starry wings. NightWings. Lizard lept to the sky and flew towards the nightwing. He whispered,“Enchant this cactus to paralyzed whoever touches it. The NightWing landed next to the cactus and broke off a piece of it. He was paralyzed. Lizard picked the Nightwing up cautiously. He would need to take him to Queen Thorn. He flew upwards and quickly spotted the Sandwing palace. Lizard Held the nightwing firmly in his talons and set off toward the palace. Two guards were placed at the entrance. “Ahoy! Why are you here with a Nightwing in your talons?” They called. “Caught this one slouching around the palace.” Lizard replied. “And why should we believe you?” The guards asked suspiciously. “Because I’m a sandwing like you.” The guards sighed, and said, “Ok, but make it quick.” Lizard flew into the palace, thinking, why was the NightWing here? Yeah, that was very suspicious. He followed the guards directions to a tent that looked like it had been tainted by the sun.
“Thorn?” Lizard asked.
A dragon’s head popped out of the tent. His face was friendly, but it quickly changed to hostile when he spotted the NightWing. “Lizard, What in the name of the moons are you doing with a NightWing?” he asked curiously. “He was creeping around the palace. I need to see Queen Thorn.” Lizard replied. “Ok, just don’t bother her too much.” As Lizard proceeded, He heard voices. That must be Thorn and advisors. “Ok, we should- wait- Lizard? Care to explain why there is a NightWing in my tent?” questioned Thorn. “Well, I found him slouching around the palace. Then he lighted down next to a cactus, and I enchanted it to paralyze him. Also, he has a venom scratch on his leg. Lets fix that..” Lizard mumbled uneasily. Thorn smiled. She picked up a piece of cactus, and smoothed the juice on the NightWing’s leg, then quickly backed away. Awaken this NightWing, Thought Lizard. The NightWing woke up with a start. “What is your name, NightWing?” Thorn asked sternly. “S-Silentstalker.” He replied shakily. “Alright, Silentstalker, what were you doing around my palace?” Thorn asked even more sternly.
“I-I have something.. G-gift.” Silentstalker said. “What is this “gift”?” Qibli chirped in curiously. Silentstalker brought out a small leather pouch, and opened it. Inside was an enormous diamond. Lizard gasped. Thorn narrowed her eyes suspiciously. “How do I know that this isn’t animus touched?” Thorn asked Silentstalker.
Lizard proceeded to pick up the diamond and examine it. “Wait!” Thorn exclaimed, but Lizard had already picked it up. Lizard had just started to say, “Its not animus touched.” but he was cut off by a sudden gust of wind, knocking him off his feet. A flash of sunset red crossed his eyes. What was that?! Lizard thought, surprised. Suddenly, he felt something prick his leg. The world around Lizard began to spin. Before Lizard blacked out, he heard someone say something. “Load up the prisoners…”
Chapter 2: The Deadly Rain
Sunset’s gleaming red scales shimmered as she approached the Prophecy dragons. A SandWing, a SeaWing, a NightWing, a SkyWing, and me, the RainWing. Now all I need is an IceWing. It had been at least a moon since Sunset found out about the mysterious prophecy. It made her so AGITATED. She sighed, annoyed that she had to collect all these dragons by herself. At least one of them is an animus, Sunset told herself. She leapt off the platform and flew towards her palace. “Hibiscus! Bring me fish, a lizard or two, and maybe a boar?” Sunset asked a lilac colored dragon. Hibiscus nodded, then flew away. Sunset noticed a beautiful blood red rose among the flowers, and she picked it carefully.
The soft, sweet smell of the rose washed over her. Sunset shook her head. Stop getting distracted! She snatched a basket from the flower collecting spot, and took off for the fruit fields. When Sunset reached her destination, she lighted down and began collecting fruit. In the end, she had stuffed her basket with enough food to last her for a few days. She picked a few roses and jasmine to remind her of the rainforest. Sunset also packed one of her animus touched blankets that keep the wearer constantly warm.
She took a deep breath, then stretched her wings as she took off in the direction of the Ice Kingdom.
Sunset had been flying for two days when she had reached the place where the snow starts and the rock ends. It was getting chilly, so she wrapped her enchanted blanket around herself. Turn me into an IceWing, she thought. Sunset felt her wings growing bigger and her spikes becoming longer. She didn’t feel cold anymore, so she put her blanket back in the basket. Sunsets enlarged wings outstretched and she leapt off into the frozen air. Before long, she reached the Royal IceWing Hatchery. Sunset snuck in, disguised as an IceWing. She located the perfect egg. It was icey blue, with shimmering gleams of silver. Perfect for the Prophecy. Sunset quickly snatched the egg. Suddenly, a voice called, “Ey! Stop where you are!” She needed to fly, and quickly. Sunset jumped into the sky and flew away as fast as her wings would carry her. When she had finally reached the edge of the Ice Kingdom she thought, Turn me back into my RainWing self, and Sunset became a RainWing again.
She finally reached the Rainforest, after days and days of flying. When she returned, she was met with a horrifying sight.. RainWings. Screaming with fear. NightWings. Screeching in pain. The Prophecy Dragons huddled, hiding among the flowers. The Rainforest was flooded with dragons of all tribes. Sunset heard her dragonets squeaking her name. What have I done? She darted for her poor dragonets. “Hide!” Sunset roared, loud as an explosion. All the RainWings and NightWings, quick as a whip, disappeared. Oh no oh no oh no! Crashing, screaming and roaring filled the air, as one voice, clearer than all, screeched, “Find the RainWings! Find the NightWings! Wipe out them all!” Moons, Moons please, someone help us, please let them leave, please let them leave the prophecy dragons alone, Sunset pleaded silently. Please…
Chapter 3: The Escape
Three days after the Rainforest was attacked, Tide, Lizard, Silentstalker, Ember, Sunset, and the IceWing egg were hiding. Tide and Sunset had built a sort of camp. Lizard and Ember went out looking for food. Silentstalker sharpened a few spears he found while they were escaping the RainWing village. Sunset was under deep, deep regret. Tide wished she would just stop regretting and start helping make their new home. Not that Tide didn’t like Sunset, it was more like, “ITS NOT YOUR FAULT OH MOONS JUST STOP” situation. She sighed, as she lifted up a moss-covered log and leaned it again a tree. Sunset’s dragonets had still not been found, and she was becoming quite frantic. Suddenly, a rustling sound came from a nearby bush. Tide whirled around to look what it was. Rustle Rustle… Crash! Tide toppled over, pushed back by the stranger. “Who are you?!?” Tide spat. “Hey, hey. Calm down, its just me, Hibiscus.” they said, slightly muffled. Sunset bolted up when she heard that name.
“Wha-what?! Hibiscus! What happened?” Sunset sputtered anxiously. “Well... The SandWings attempted to capture all of the RainWings… And succeeded… All of the RainWings except me….” Hibiscus muttered distantly. Tide and Sunset just stared, horrified. “Oh no..” Lizard whispered, suddenly appearing. Sunset yelped in surprise, then glared at Lizard. “Where did the SandWings take all of the RainWings?” Ember asked innocently. Tide closed her eyes tight, trying not to cry. “I-I’m going to go look for more palm leaves.” She choked out. Tide slips out of the camp, and went out looking for the palm leaves. Suddenly, silently, She felt something hard and cold bump the back of her neck. Tide could not see, only hear. Tide heard someone muttering, “Caught her…”
Tide opened her eyes, dazed. She found her talons locked together, held by strong chains. No! She strained against the chains, but they wouldn’t budge. Tide stopped struggling, as she remembered. Of course! She wriggled slightly, giggling at her self for not remembering. Tide’s chains slipped off her talons, and flew off into the air. Tide took a moment to view her surroundings. She appeared to be in a prison cell, with sand dusting the floor and walls. I’m in the Sand Kingdom, Tide thought, and she knew it. Tide leapt out of the prison window, and set her course for the Rainforest. But… She didn’t know how to find their shelter was. AGAIN, I forgot! Take me to Sunset, Tide, Silentstalker and Ember’s camp. She stared at the rock in her pouch. Tide felt something jerk behind her legs, and she was off.
Chapter 4: The Raid
Two days after Tide returned, they were planning. Now that the Prophecy Dragons knew what happened and where the RainWings and NightWings were kept, they were coming up with a plan to break them all free. “Well it shouldn’t be that hard, Sunset and Lizard are animuses.” Ember chirped. “True,” Tide snorted. Wait… Where ARE Sunset and Lizard? Ember realized. “Wait! Where are Sunset and Lizard?” He bursted out. “I don’t know… I JUST saw Sunset a few minutes ago, collecting blankets of moss.” Hibiscus said, squinting. “Oh GREAT, they probably thought they were too good for us and went off to save their own scales.” Tide snorted. “We’d better go look for them, or we’re goners for sure.” Silentstalker mumbled from the corner.
You’re right, I guess.” Tide muttered under her breath. Ember shot up into the air to get a better view, then fluttered back down. “I think I can see the SandWing palace,” Ember informed them. “Oh, and you suppose they went there?” Tide challenged. “Yeah, remember? Sunset’s dragonets are there.” Ember reminded her. Tide rolled her eyes. “But who will watch the egg? Or are we supposed to bring it with us?” Ember thought for a moment, then said, “I think theres a flower basket somewhere, we could carry the egg in there.” Tide sighed, defeated. “Well, what are we waiting for? Lets go!” Ember stretched his wings and flew off towards the SandWing palace, the others following in suit.
About half way through their journey, Ember really was getting a view of the SandWing palace. “Come up here! I see the palace!” He shouted over the dry wind. “Woah, thats BIG. Even from far away!” Silentstalker marveled. “Big deal.” Tide grumbled, rolling her eyes. “What are we waiting for? Lets go!” Ember yelled excitedly. He flapped his wings, marveling at the huge palace. “What about STEALTH?” Tide reminded him. “Aren’t we supposed to be RESCUING?” Ember remembered. “Ohhhh! Yeahhh stealth.” He shot down to the sandy ground, looking around for an entrance. Ember whacked his tail against the wall, and yelped in surprise. “It won’t budge!” He informed Tide and Silentstalker grimly. “Of course not, idiot. Anyway, we’re DRAGONS. We can fly over the wall, remember?” Tide sneered. Silentstalker shot Tide a frown. Tide flew over the wall, beckoning for them to follow. Ember and Silentstalker reluctantly followed, and landed next to Tide.
“Now what do you suggest we do?” Silentstalker asked nervously. “We’ll have to find the source of this.” Tide murmured.
Ember, being small, was able to sneak into the throne room. He peered around the corner, and caught a glimpse of someone. She looked like a SandWing, but she had bright colors and a ruff like a RainWing. Ember raced back to Tide and Silentstalker, reporting what he had seen. “So, let me get this straight. The SandWings. Are being led by a hybrid. Correct?” Tide asked Ember. “I-I think so,” Ember replied, still in shock from what he saw. “Wow. Wait- If this strange hybrid is leading, where is Thorn?” Silentstalker wondered. “Oh! Oh! I think I know where she is!” Ember said, looking around at them, then adding, “And maybe the RainWings and NightWings are there too,” Tide tapped her talons, considering.
“True,” She muttered finally, frowning. “But where?” Ember rolled his eyes. “The DUNGEON of course!” He giggled. “Of course- I thought of- Of course I thought of that!” Tide sputtered. Ember rolled his eyes. “Okay, but lets hurry before we’re spotted.” He slipped past the guards, motioning for Tide and Silentstalker to follow him. “Now whats this MARVELOUS plan of yours?” Tide said sarcastically. “Easy. Knock the guards out, steal the keys, then free the RainWings, NightWings, and Queen Thorn.” Ember explained. “Easier said than done,” Tide muttered, rolling her eyes. “Oh shush,” Ember said affectionately. He hopped over to the guard post, and jumped on one of the guards. “Three moons! What about STEALTH??” Tide yelped, clobbering another guard with her tail.
Silentstalker put the last guard to sleep with a sleeping dart, and they slipped the keys to the dungeon off his neck. “Okay, I’ll admit, that was pretty awesome.” Tide said, satisfied. Silentstalker and Ember exchanged glances and rolled their eyes. “Lets just sneak in and free everyone, and they all go ‘Wow you saved us, our heroes!’ and we’re admired for the rest of our lives.” Tide fantasized sarcastically. “Oh come on,” Ember moaned in mock annoyment. He reached over, and fit one of the keys in the lock. Darn keys, He thought. Ember tried another, and it finally fit in the key hole. He opened the door to the dungeons, and swiftly slipped inside. “Hurry! We only have a fraction of time before we’re spotted!” Ember whispered to Tide and Silentstalker. He hurried down the dark passageway, and lit a torch. “Hello? Anyone in here?” Ember called.
“Yes.. We’re here..” He heard a voice cough. “Tide! Silentstalker! Come down here! We found them!” Ember called to Tide and Silentstalker. No reply. “Guys?” He tried again. Again, no reply. Oh no.. Oh no! Ember swallowed. “They’re probably playing a trick on me! Yeah, yeah.” He said out loud to himself. Ember shook his head, trying to focus. “Okay. First, lets get you free.” He approached the cell, and unlocked it. At least about 4 dozen RainWings scattered out, looking utterly miserable with out the usual sunlight. “Hey, do you know where Queen Thorn is?” Ember asked them. The RainWings nodded somberly, and pointed down the passageway to a small cell. Ember rushed over, and unlocked the door. “Thorn? Are you there?” A figure moved. “Yeah, I’m here. Who are you?” She coughed.
“I’m Ember, one of Lizard’s friends.” He replied. “Oh, yeah. Lizard and that pretty red RainWing just came by, but didn’t have the keys and couldn’t free us.” Thorn chuckled, looking like she hadn’t seen the sun in a century. “Sunset and Lizard..” Ember breathed. “Yeah.. Oh, you wouldn’t happen to have a cactus somewhere, right?” Thorn asked. “Sadly, no.” Ember replied curiously. “Oh well, everyone has to die someday.” She lifted her tail, revealing an infected evil-looking venom wound. “What?! Who did this to you!?” Ember shrieked, horrified. “A particular someone, by the name of Scorpion.”
