Dylan’s Crazy Unpredictable Cousins
Author: Dylan Duran
Hi my name is Dylan I am 9 years old. My school is PS 94 and I’m in 4th grade . I live in a famous city of New York called the Bronx. My heritage is Dominacian and we love to eats a lot of rice and beans with any type of chicken on the side. Some of my interests are the Bermuda Triangle, and how the Tititanic sank. My habits are, running, baseball, swimming and being a comedian because I love telling jokes and being clumsy.Things that I dislike are bullies and probably nothing more. Things that are my favorite are my family, my friends my teachers and much more!

It all started one day when my cousins arrived to my house. I was on the couch googling some stuff and I heard them racing to the door. They were shouting and giggling at the same time. I knew they were excited to see me as I was excited to hear that they had come over. Boom! The door swung open hitting the wall. Boom!
“Hey guys, be quiet, my baby sister is sleeping” I whispered in a very low voice.
They agreed to stay quiet and go upstairs. I decided to join them just to make sure they would keep silent since I was the oldest out of both of them. I know they would probably go crazy if I weren’t there with them and they would definitely wake up my sister. She doesn’t like being woken up. Literally.
We all went upstairs to the bedrooms. I thought that I had the situation under control. Little did I know, that they were totally unmanageable. THEY WENT RAMPAGE! They were like dogs combined with a monkey and I was astonished!
I asked myself, “Ok, how am I going to deal with my cousins’ behavior?”
They said they had swords. I began to get nervous. My cousins were demons.
“What family generation did they come from?” I wondered.

I felt as if I had to come up with an idea. Maybe this was going to keep them come, but they beat me to it.
“Let’s play a game?” mumbled the little demons.
I said, “We can play four corners.”
“Sure, I want to play that.” they shouted.
We finally finished playing four corners and immediately after that, I adventuotly hit my youngest cousin.
“Ouch! Get off of me! , I shouted.
I had just about enough of this craziness, that I just left and went downstairs. I told my uncle that they are upstairs all alone. They are out of control.

All About Me
My name is Kadidja Koita. I am 9 years old. The school I go to is
called ps.94. I am in 4th grade. My favorite color is blue and my favorite food is pizza. I have 5 siblings, 2 sisters and 3 brothers. My favorite sport is swimming. In school my favorite subject is math. I live in the Bronx, but one day I wish I could visit Paris. My dad is from Africa/Mali. And my mom is from Paris and from Mali too. So that means me and my 2 brothers speak soninke and my brothers speak french. I speak a little french. My family and I are muslims. I love visiting different types of places, as well as spending time with my family. Now my least favorite thing to do is remote learning .When I do remote learning I always get frustrated because we do it for 3 hour and that is way too much time on the device. It causes me to always get a headache.
I was so excited when I woke up in the morning because I was going to finally meet my new baby brother. It was late in the evening and my siblings and I were playing. My parents told us to eat dinner and then we went to bed.
“Hey Kadidja, mom had the baby and she is in the hospital.” said my brother.
“I knew she was going to have a baby today because last night her stomach was so big.” I replied. I also was worried about her but at the same time, I was happy to have another sibling. I was wondering if it was going to be a boy, or a girl. I couldn’t wait to meet my new sibling.
My dad came and told everyone to go to sleep. Then it was morning and we had to wake up to eat breakfast.
The next day, we woke up, ate our breakfast and had to go stay at my aunt’s house.
“We don’t want to go to auntie’s house.” said me and my sister.
“You have to go because I have to go to work,” said my dad.
Then we got ready and got in my dad’s car and went to my aunt's house. When we got there we sat on the couch and watched some T.V. A couple hours later we ate lunch and she gave us some yummy snacks. She realized that we were getting bored and asked her daughter to keep us busy for a little while. “Could you take the kids to the park?” asked my aunt.
“Sure.” Fatou replied.
We played for a while and went back to my aunt’s house. So since I babysit my siblings. When we got back my baby sister was crying because she wanted me. I made her some warm milk then she fell asleep. The time passed and it was dark outside. Eventually, my aunt called my dad to come to pick us up.
After we arrived home I was happy because I was going to be able to see my baby brother the next day. I felt joyful because I always wanted to have a younger brother. I wanted to be able to play with my older brothers but they were not into the things I do. We ate dinner and went to bed. I woke up so early because I thought my mom came home, but she did not, so I went back to sleep. My brother woke me up and said ,”Kadidja come eat breakfast because dad is going to go pick up mom and the baby from the hospital.”
“Yay!” I yelled.
Finally, my dad left and went to pick up my mom. As a result, we were looking out the window because the hospital was across the street from our house.
Minutes later I said, ”I can see him with the baby.”
“RING, RING!” my parents rang the doorbell.
We sat on the couch so we could each have a turn holding the cute little baby. As I was holding him excitement filled my heart with joy.
Nathalie’s Swimming Adventure
Author: Nathalie Annan
Hello my name is Nathalie and I am 9 years old. I am a fourth-grader in Mrs. Argyros’s class. My favorite color is blue. My favorite food happens to be chicken. I am very interested in computer science and computer programming. I dislike remote learning, but I still show up in the classes. These are some things about me. I hope you enjoy my story!
My family and I were all packed in a car heading to our hotel. My two sisters were great swimmers. Me, on the other hand, was not as magnificent as they were. I was a bit nervous at first to get into the water, but it was too hot not to go in.
The minute we arrived at the hotel, we rushed up to our room and changed into our bathing suits. We gathered our towels and went to the pool. My sisters and I agreed to play Marco Polo in the water. We were having a great time, even though I was being super cautious not to end up in the deep end. Our parents were sitting under the umbrella guarding our belonging, and keeping eye on us. All of a sudden, as we were playing in the pool, I almost drowned!
“Help! Help!’’ I yelled. My sisters came rushing over to me and grabbed me by the shoulders.
“You should be more careful,” demanded Liane.
I took it very lightly but my sisters were very concerned about my health. But little did I know that today would be the day I learned to swim. After a while, my mother ordered chicken wings. I was able to smell the sweet and tangy chicken wings. I couldn’t wait to sit down and eat. “These chicken wings are delicious and crunchy!’’ sang Joylen. I got back in the pool with my sisters getting ready to play hide and seek. However, my father was determined to teach me how to swim. He called me over to him and made me breathe underwater! I mean I know he was trying to protect me, but now was the worst time to start. My sisters were under the water having fun while I was suffering breathing underwater.
“Keep on going! You are doing great!’’ yelled Lianne and Joylen.
The next day was even worse! My father came to the rescue and taught me how to swim. He told me to try holding my nose while under the water it might help.
Splat! As soon as I hit the water it slashed everywhere and it was cold. My dad told me to practice my kicks. After that, I jumped in the pool and kicked my feet as hard as I could. When I opened my eyes, I was swimming! I saw the fruit of my labor pay off. I felt amazing I felt as if I could conquer the world.
“I did it!” I declared to my family that Saturday afternoon I felt accomplished.

The Day I Met Raven
Isabella Guzman
Group A
Almost everyday a black cat comes to my backyard. Usually she comes in the early morning at like 6:00 am! Sometimes she does not come at all! My dad, sister, and I really wanted a pet for AGES. “That cat is ADORABLE!” I said. It was very fuzzy and furry looking.
“We should give it some food!” said my dad. “Oh good idea! Maybe chicken?” said my sister. “The cat looks hungry. So sure!” I said. The chicken was cold because it came from the fridge but the cat still ate it. When my mom saw what we were doing.
My mom didn’t like it because she didn’t like animals as much as we did. Actually she hated animals! A LOT!
My sister, dad, and I kept feeding the cat to the point where it trusted all three of us. Now we started giving the cat water. As a result, my mom was now very mad that this cat liked us. One day my mom, dad, and I were cleaning the backyard. It was pretty early and my sister was still sleeping. “Oh hey cat!” I said while watching it pass by.
“Great now the cat is here.” said my mom sarcastically. The cat started sitting in the backyard asking for more food which my mom didn’t like. Eventually, she started to spray the cat with a hose which made the cat not trust us AT ALL. I knew something was fishy! The cat hissed at us all and ran away. My mom kept treating the cat badly. I was so mad at my mom for hurting the cat that by the way didn’t do anything!
“WHAT IS THE MATTER WITH YOU?” I exclaimed. The cat was so scared to the point where the cat started to not come anymore. I felt so bad for the cat and hoped it was ok with all of my life!
One day though the cat came back and when my mom saw this she was very mad about this. Like VERY, VERY MAD! When she saw this she didn’t do anything about it for some reason. Not even a stomp or yell or anything! I never knew why but I guess she just gave up trying to make it go away.
I was so happy. “Now we can keep her! Yay!” I said with excitement. “Yeah yeah sure but it has to stay in the backyard or we can’t keep it.”said my mom not very excited looking. “Fair enough,” I said while nodding my head up and down. “Yeah me too,” said my sister still very excited.
Eventually the cat met another cat and now they are best friends. Now every time my mom is mean this new cat would make the black cat feel better. This made me realize that if something bad is happening and nobody is helping you solve this problem then try to persuade them and it could make the world a better place. Now we always treat this cat the best we can.

The Second Grade
Spelling Bee
By: Jeton Cosovic
Group B
“Hey class, we will be having a spelling test to see if you can get into the spelling bee,” my teacher said. “I am excited to get the chance to be in the spelling bee,” I said. “I hope I get in.
Every year my school holds a spelling bee. I always wanted to join. It was springtime and my teacher said that we were having a spelling test to see who qualified for the actual spelling bee. After that, I was told I got into the spelling bee. Then, when I got home I shouted, “Mom! Dad! Guess what? I got into the spelling bee!” I asked my sisters if they would help me study.
“We will help you study for the spelling bee,” they said.
I gave them the paper with the words on it. They would say a word and I spelled the word the way I knew it. If I got the spelling wrong they would correct me. After I started practicing I started to think about the spelling bee and got scared. I was overthinking it! I continued to practice and the fear of talking in front of many people made me nervous. The fear of messing up creeped in. I then decided to have a conversation with my mom. “Mom I am nervous to go on stage,” I said.
”Don’t worry it will be fine, I will be there with your dad so you can look for us in the auditorium,” mom said.
She gave me one of her talks like usual. The fear of messing up on stage would go away, but then come back at times. Even after practicing a lot it would always come back.
The day finally came! The teacher came to my class, collected me and brought the rest of the kids who got into the spelling bee to the auditorium. My nerves began to act up. I chatted with my friends and I got a little happy. When the spelling bee began I saw all the classes come into the auditorium and it started. When you spell a word you hold a smooth and cold microphone. When it started, it was easy words. Students got words wrong and left the stage. As the competition went on , the words were longer and more difficult. It was five minutes in, I looked up and saw my parents. I looked at them every time I to spell a word. It felt like I was just talking to them.
I felt happy I was up on the stage. Every time I spelled a word correctly I did a rock star guitar with my hands. Eventually, I got a word wrong. I left in 6th place!
“Do you want to go home?” Mom said.
”Yes,” I replied. I went home having fun on the stage.
I learned to be confident and how to overcome my fear of talking in front of a larger crowd without getting scared.

Title: Sharing On The First Day Of School
Author: Madelyn Munoz
My school is such an awesome place to learn and have fun. This place is full of wonders, in this school there are lots of fun teachers, you can learn stuff like ELA, Math and Art Class!!! There are also lots of fun students too. I still remember the day I first met my friend.
“Hey would you like a piece of tangerine?” I asked.
“YEAH PLEASE,” She said. “OKAY OKAY,” I replied back.
“Umm what is your name?” I shyly questioned. “Oh mine, umm my name is Amy,” she said shyly too. That day it was the first day of school and I was making friends!!!
Then it was time to go out for recess!!! When we went out for recess we played hopscotch, ran around, walked all around the yard or we used to just talk about how our day went. Then it was time to go to the cafeteria. “Where are your second grade friends?” I asked curiously. “They are right here,” she replied back to me.
I ran back inside the cafeteria because I was so excited I was making friends on the first day of third grade!!! All my friends were with me, her friends were my friends and my friends were her friends too. All my friends were Taviana, Analiah, Estefania and Nailah, and she had one more friend that was named: Kimani.
Then it was time to go back to class. Our third grade teacher, Ms. Brewington, switched her seat next to mine. We used to talk and talk and when we had free time on Fridays, we played with our friends and with each other!!! That is how I made friends on the first day of third grade.
A TIP FOR BECOMING FRIENDS
You can always become friends with everyone. Just ask them what’s your name and be nice just like I did. By sharing and being nice to everyone, you can find nice friends.

I left My Heart in Mexico/Chelsea Damian (Group a)
My memory was when I went to Mexico and my grandma promised to buy me a teddy bear. My grandma bought me bear that I cherished so much. But my time would be short because my mother and I had to leave in a week. A week later, it was time for to return home to the States. I had to leave behind my bear with my grandma even though I didn’t want to. My mom said the she would buy a bear when we got back home. Even still, there was something special about the bear that grandma bought me because I got it during my vacation in Mexico. It felt as if I had a new friend. Unfortunately, my
new friend remained home with my grandma. From this experience, I learned that it’s okay to be sad to not get what you want. But I will always keep good things in my heart, like my bear in Mexico. I know that someday will be together again.
(Coming to America/Karim Traore (Group B))
I was born in Mali in July 7th, 2011 in a small town called Fana; my dad was still here in the U.S. The first time I saw him is when I was 3 years old. My dad filed for green card for Mom, my little sister, and me to come to U.S. Then, we came in U.S. on March 29, 2019. In Mali, I would read, write, and speak in French in school and most people speak “Bambara” but in the U.S. most people speak English. The weather is different in U.S. It gets very hot in Mali. Yes, I struggled with the weather and the language in U.S. but with the support of my family, my teachers, especially
Mr. Lewis, I am improving my reading, writing, and speaking in English. Thank you so much.
