                            Setting

The Civil Rights Movement was set during the 1950s and 1960s and occurred all across the United States, but mainly in the South.

          Key Players involved

Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr., Booker T. Washington, and Thurgood Marshall are just a few of the many leaders of the Civil Rights Movement. The main person I am going to talk about is Martin Luther King Jr. As an adolescent , Martin Luther King Jr. faced the many hardships of segregation and discrimination that was plagued across America during the time. However, this was all about to change with the rise of the Civil Rights Movement, led by none other than Martin Luther King Jr. He conducted many nonviolent protests throughout the United States advocating for social justice and the elimination of segregation and discrimination. By the time he was assassinated, there had been many acts and laws put into place to ban discrimination because of his powerful, inspiring speeches. His most notable speech was at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C.

Here is Martin Luther King Jr. speaking in front of the Lincoln Memorial on August 28, 1963. This is perhaps one of his most famous speeches.

                 Cause of Conflict

The many inequalities and injustices of African American’s during the early to mid 20th century triggered the Civil Rights Movement. Many say the birth of the Civil Rights Movement was the Rosa Parks incident on a bus in which she refused to give up her seat to a white individual. It would become one of the most popular and famous movements of U.S. History.

                  Conflict

The Civil Rights Movement was a long time coming because of the oppression of African Americans for almost 2 centuries. The discrimination and segregation of African Americans in the U.S. caused protest and, eventually, changes which didn’t take very long. In fact, it only took 2 years from when Rosa Parks was arrested. The famous Brown V. The Board of Education court case and the Rosa Parks arrest were all inspirations to many African Americans to rise up and protest for freedom.

              Resolutions

From the Civil Rights Act of 1957 to The Civil Rights Act of 1965, there were various acts that were enacted during the Civil Rights Movement that would change every African Americans life to come. The Civil Rights Act of 1957 gave African Americans the protection against any citizen preventing them from voting via national prosecution. In addition to this change, a rift was created in the U.S. government. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 outlawed communal segregation, voter tests were restricted, it ensured the preservation of equal rights in the workplace, and prohibited employment prejudice. The Civil Rights Act of 1965 granted suffrage for African Americans and made voter literacy tests illegal. 

Long term impact/summary

The Civil Rights Movement was perhaps the most significant event in U.S. and Black History. It's so important, even today, because without it our country would still be torn apart due to discrimination. In conclusion, the main goals of the Civil Rights Movement were eventually accomplished and are still cherished to this day.  Without the great leaders of the movement, such as Martin Luther King Jr., Booker T. Washington, and Rosa parks, I don't know where the United States of America would be today.
