It all started on Tommy's 10 year old birthday, his Grandfather, who traveled all around the world, gave Tommy a special present.

"Your mom and dad told me that you are ready to have one" he said and gave him the gift.

This is the story of a brave little parrot by the name of Chatty.

Tommy opened the gift and out jumped a baby scarlet macaw.

"A scarlet macaw!" said Tommy "Wow! Thank you Grampa!"

"A scarlet macaw is a parrot. And parrots are known to mimic human speech" Grampa told him.

"Well then" said Tommy "I'm going to train this parrot to do many cool tricks and including talking human speech. And i'm going to name her Chatty".

Chatty grew and grew everyday.

And she lived in a cozy bird cage with three other birds:

Clara the canary, Peter the parakeet and Miguel the myna bird (Who was very old).

Miguel use to mimic human speech but that was long ago because he was now very old and had better things to do.

Every Tuesdays, Tommy would teach Chatty some cool tricks like flying all around the room and coming back, Doing a flip flop in the air and jumping up and down on his hand.

"Okay, Chatty" Tommy said one day "Today, you are going to learn to speak human speech.

Chatty was very exited and ready to talk.

"Okay Chatty" said Tommy "Say Hello!"

Chatty held her breath and let it out with a loud....

"RAAAAAAK! SHRAAAAAAAAAAAASAAAAAAAWK!"

Oh dear though Chatty to herself That didn't sound right at all.

"Keep trying, Chatty" urged Tommy "Like this  Hello!

He-lo! Try again."

But all came out was a terrible:

"RAWWWWWWWK! BWAAAAAAAKAKAKAKKAKAKAKKAKAAAAAAA!"

"Oh well" sighed Tommy " We'll try again next Tuesday".

It was a sad day back in her birdcage.

Clara and Peter laughed at her saying:

" Listen to that? Did you hear that wonderful human speech? YOU will NEVER learn to talk Hahahahahahahhaha!".

Poor Chatty.

The only friend she had besides Tommy was Miguel the myna bird.

"Why can't I talk human speech?" Chatty asked him in bird one day. I'm trying".

"Perhaps you're not trying hard enough" replied Miguel. "Keep trying and your get good at it.".

My he WAS wise.

It was the same story every week.

Every time Tommy tries to teach Chatty to speak, all comes out is noisy:

"SQUAAAAAAK! RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWK!"

And every time she's put back in her cage,

Clara and Peter would tease her.

"You must be the cousin of an alarm clock!" they teased.

Chatty went back to her friend.

But he said "Just keep trying, you'll get good at it".

My he WAS wise!
