This story was created by students at the University of Richmond and German Jordanian University. The purpose of our story is to encourage early childhood development and reimagine what success means to children. The collection of stories provide different narratives about health, well-being and success and were created during the COVID-19 pandemic. We hope that the international collaboration during this time can serve as inspiration for young minds to broaden their views of health and success. This work was conducted under the supervision of Professor Rana Dajani and Professor Dr. Akeel Al-Kazwini.

“Good morning students!” said Mrs. Miller. “We are going to try something new. I want you to all think of something you love to do. Think of something you can imagine yourself doing everyday.

“Now, I want you to do the task you have imagined everyday for one week. During the week, I want you to think about how you feel having to do this thing everyday.” Mrs. Miller said.

“How was everyone’s week? Share with the class!” said Mrs. Miller.
One Week Later...

“This week I cooked with my dad. I loved making different meals for my family every day! I could cook forever!” Sam exclaimed.
“I’m glad you had so much fun this week, Sam.” said Mrs. Miller.

“Really?” Jessica asked. “I spent every day this week helping my parents take care of my siblings and I am so tired. That was a hard job!"
“Taking care of children is a tough job, I would know. Not everyone enjoys it and that's okay. I’m glad you now know taking care of children might not be what you want to do.” replied Mrs. Miller.

“I tried dancing for a few days, but I got bored and started doing cool science experiments with my mom. I hope it's okay that I changed activities." said Alex.
“Of course it's fine to change your mind! You’ll never know what you could love to do if you don’t try.” said Mrs. Miller.

“I’m so happy you all have started thinking about what you do and don’t enjoy doing. Next Monday, we are going to have a Career Day with some of your parents. Do you know what that means?” asked Mrs. Miller.

“No!” the students reply.
“A career is the job or jobs someone has during their life. It's what they do every day,” replied Mrs. Miller.
“So, on Career Day, your parents are going to tell us what their job is.” explained Mrs. Miller.

“Welcome to Career Day students!” Mrs. Miller said. “We’re so excited that so many of your parents are joining us to share with us what they do everyday”
“Mr. Johnson would you like to start?”
Monday morning...
“Sure!” Mr. Johnson says. “I went to school and studied English. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do at first, just like so many other adults. My first job was a police officer, but later I became a teacher”

“Why did you do so many different jobs?” asked Alex.

“Good question Alex! Often, people finish school and they still don't know what they want to do! So, I tried different jobs and that helped me choose what I want to be."
“I’ll go next” Mr. Smith volunteered. “I am a stay at home parent. Originally, I was a scientist, but when we had a family, I wanted to stay home and raise our children. I am so grateful that I can stay at home .”
“That’s great!” Mrs. Miller exclaimed. “Being a parent is one of the most important jobs. Who would like to go next?”
