A long time ago there lived Kwaku Ananse the spider who lived in a village called obibini krom. Ananse was very smart and a mischievous character. He was selfish,greedy and careless about anyone else in his village.

Because of his smartness he always outwits his fellow village folks  and tease them afterwards. 

 This behavior of his made the people of obibini krom got to know him very well.

 One day his very best friend called Ofosu the antelope came to visit him .

 In conversation, Ofosu invited Ananse to escort him to his farm because he had a lot to  harvest  . Ananse being pleased said "Yes my good friend I will escort you to your farm."

They both picked their cutlass and went to the farm. After a long and bountiful harvest they relaxed under a palm tree and ate together. Now Ofosu the antelope said "my good friend I have known you for a very long time and I trust you. come,let me show you something". He took ananse to an oak tree and dug under it . There was a pot of gold wrapped in a black polythene . Ananse said  "my friend who owns this pot of gold?" "I do " replied Ofosu "It is a family property given to me by my forefathers" He said. "I want you to keep it for me . I will be travelling for a while  and someone might come for it in my absence. Please don't let anyone know about this gold

Ananse replied " don't worry my good friend . It is in safe hands. I will keep it safe till you return from your journey. 

They packed their harvest and the pot of gold and left back home. 

It has been 3years  after Ofosu travelled and there is no sign of him coming back. Neither a message had been sent to Ananse. 

Ananse thought for a while and said where could ofosu be that he hasn't return for 3years. Probably he might have died or anything might have happened to him.

As the days kept going and the years as well, ananse  could not stop thinking about his long gone friend. He said what kind of punishment is this? How can you ofosu give me your pot of gold and still not have come back for it  soonest?

There is more to this than am thinking off . besides you told me to keep it secretly but I just cant help it. For this is a punishment to me. what if he is dead all these years, I just cant bare it anymore. I will start using them

After a thorough thought about his friend and the gold . He said I am the smartest of all in this village. I can outwits anyone at anytime. I cant stay like this without being smart and remain a non entity. I will spend the pot of gold to become the richest Ananse in this village . The kings and his people will all bow down to me because I will have more money than anyone else and when ofosu returns I will let them lock him up and kill him  

so Anane sold the pot of gold in  a nearby village and became the richest character in the whole of obibini krom. He bought himself ten houses, many cattle, and many lands in other villages. He got himself the prettiest women in the village to marry and had the king and the whole people to his side. He said "Money is sweet, money makes one more powerful and laughed ha ha ha'
