I have some news!
Today when Dad came home from work he had some
bad news, his job at the call center was
being outsourced to India! Luckily his boss knew he
was good at being a manager and had decided to move
his job to India to help run the new call center. The
whole family is moving to India.....NEXT WEEK!
Amy's father's job is being moved to India because his
job has been outsourced. Outsourcing is where a
company relocates for cheaper labor costs and cheaper
space where the company is located. Many jobs are
being outsourced to India in the United States,
especially companies like call centers where they can
be located anywhere and don't need raw materials. The
companies outsource because people in India will work
for much less money than people in the Untied States.
Also land is cheaper in India.

Today we arrived in India. During the last month
we packed up the entire house and said our
goodbyes to family and friends because we don't
know how long it will be until we return. People
dress very differently here. All the females wear
strange things around head covering their head.
Most people wearing simple cotton clothes with
beautiful colors. I look very out of place in my
skinny jeans and tank top from the mall back
home.
Amy speaks english and most people in India
speak Hindu. The things that women wear on their
head is called a bindi. There are lots of culture
differences Amy will encounter. Each culture in the
world is distinct from other culture by the rules
they follow, how they dress, what they wear, and
more.

I'm starting to get used to things in India. The food
is very different. You get to eat with your hands,
Mom used to yell at me for that back in the states!
My favorite thing to do during the day is to travel
to the market and try different foods.
Amy is right the food is definitely very different in
India. Some things are more spicy and portions are
smaller. Markets in India line the streets with
vendors selling everything from fruits to flowers.
The common language Amy was talking about is
called lingua franca, which is when two people
from two different languages can find common
ground to communicate.

It is very hard to understand people in India because they
speak Hindu and I can't. Although I've still found a way to
make friends with a couple of kids down the block. To
communicate we found a common ground between English
and Hindu. They try and use some English and I try to use
some Hindu. Although we also have to lots of hand signals!
I guess you could say I'm starting to fit in here!
Amy is right there is what we call a language barrier
between Amy and her new friends in India. They can't
understand each other because they both speak different
languages, thus causing the barrier in communication.
The common language Amy was talking about is called
lingua franca, which is when two people from two different
languages can find common ground to communicate.

Lots of people from surrounding cities are
moving from their farms that are failing to the
city to find work at the call center or other jobs
in the city. My dad said a hundred people
showed up today looking for work.
The migration stream Amy was talking about is
called rural to urban migration. The people are
moving from their small farm to the city to find
better work because their farm couldn't
compete with multinational corporations and
they were having trouble providing for their
family.
