Chapter 1: The Disaster
All across Europe, the Nazis are hunting Jews. Millions of the Jewish people are already dead by now. But Antonio and Karl are determined to survive.
There were harsh conditions in the Polish Concentration Camp, but they have finally escaped the harm from the Nazis. They both thought they would be safe in this dense forest, but they were wrong.
Soon, tons of German Planes start flying across the sky, sending bombs weighing hundreds of pounds and cause big explosions.
Kaboom!
The trees start to become flaming torches, falling all around them.
Kaboom!
Sparks from the huge explosions fall like burning rain.
Kaboom!
Hot metal and sharp pieces for wood blow up and get thrown everywhere.
But this was only the beginning.
Soldiers with guns start to raid the forest, stampeding on the ground trying to find any people that survived the bombings,
and the siblings knew they had to run.
But at the exact moment they started to run, the biggest explosion came, and Antonio and Karl were thrown onto the ground by the force of the explosion.
They both landed in a part of the forest that wasn’t burnt, and they both got up. But they got up just in time to see a flaming tree falling and hundreds of Nazi soldiers coming as fast as they can.
Chapter 2: March 16, 1945
Antonio and his 10-year-old brother walked along the camp, trying to find something to eat. The siblings hadn’t eaten since their horribly made potato soup they had to eat a few days ago, and they were trying to find something to eat for the night. Although they had no money, they still tried to find something.
Soon, five German soldiers appeared in the camp, seeing if everyone is asleep and not escaping. Antonio and Karl noticed the soldiers, and they realized what they were doing.
“Quick! We need to go to sleep in the tents,” Antonio said.
“I know, we need to go now!” Karl told Antonio.
They both ran as fast as they can, and right as they went into the tents to sleep, the German soldiers caught a glimpse of Karl running behind Antonio.
“Phew! We are finally in the —” Karl said.
“Who was that?!” one of the German soldiers shouted.
“Oh great, the soldiers are coming. We need to go to sleep, fast!” Antonio said.
Luckily, they both went to sleep very quickly because they were super tired.
The German soldiers came, but they noticed nobody trying to escape, so they went outside and left the camps so they can guard it.
It was no wonder why the Jews were trying to be so careful of the German soldiers, or the Nazis; they were trying to hurt Jews and send them to concentration camps.
Chapter 3: March 17, 1945
Its a new day, but living in the camps is just getting worse. Antonio, Karl, and the other Jews have to work endlessly for almost little to no money. Jews will get beaten up if they try to escape or don’t follow directions said by the soldiers. Jews don’t have access to enough resources to live. More and more Jews are being sent to a camps and dying in them.
While Antonio is working, Karl comes up to him and asks, “Hey Antonio. I have a question; Why do we have to stay here, and not with Papa or Mama?”
Antonio didn’t have a response, since he also didn’t know, so he just said, “I don’t know, but I don’t want you saying things like this to anyone else.” He knew that if Karl said that, the soldiers would think he is trying to escape.
What Antonio did know is that staying in the camp is bad, and they both have to escape somehow, but he didn’t bother with that for some reason.
After a long time of working, everyone gets their supper, and it finally tastes good, since the soldiers always give bad-tasting food.
After all of that, Antonio and Karl go to the tents to sleep, but not immediately. They discuss about escaping, and they finally both have a plan. The soldiers and the people in the tents didn’t hear anything though.
But soon, they fell asleep, wondering they will be able to escape, or not.
Chapter 4: March 18, 1945
Its a new day, and nothing new has happened. Antonio and Karl did the same things over and over again; work and work. “It sometimes seems like we are always doing work,” Antonio said.
“Yeah, that is true.”
And for the rest of the day, they were just working until they both eavesdrop on a conversation about the Nazi soldiers not guarding the camp for a week so they can escort more soldiers, but they were going to put more safety hazards by adding electrocution wires on the top of fences.
But the extra electrocution wires won’t stop their plan from escaping! Today was the perfect day for them to make their plan come to life and finally escape.
But, the thing is that, they have to wait for the perfect time to escape. And so, they just went with their normal days in the concentration camp.
After eating supper though, Antonio and Karl discussed their plans once more, and a few hour later, when it was midnight, finally struck the time to run and escape.
First, Antonio and Karl would each get a shovel. Then they
both dig a hole big enough for them to escape. And after they get out of their hole, outside of the camp, they fill up the hole with dirt with their shovels. After using their shovels, they throw it above the fence, into the camp.
The siblings finally run as fast as they can, into the very dense forest, and stay there for the rest of the night, seeing if anyone can help them.
But since they see nobody there, they will have to stay in the cold for some time.
Chapter 5: March 19, 1945
Antonio and Karl were just running around the forest, finding nothing but trees and animals everywhere.
“Hello? Is anyone here?” Antonio and Karl yelled. They still found nothing.
After what seemed like a few hours the siblings found a house. Then they found multiple houses. Soon, they found an entire town of people in the forest.
“What are you doing here boys?” asked one of the people.
“We escaped the camp last night and ran here,” Antonio and Karl said.
“Oh. Well do you want to stay here for some time? It seems like you are starving and are very cold,” the person said.
“Sure,” the siblings said.
They both went into the small cabin, and the person that brought the there started explaining many things.
“I am part of the Resistance group. We try to fight the Nazis and defeat them. This is a Resistance town, where people in the Resistance live. It seemed like you just escaped from a concentration camp, so we brought you here,” the person said.
And so Antonio and Karl stayed in the cabin, until Karl said, “Our parents has been taken away by soldiers a few months ago, and our family was separated from each other. Is it possible that you can find him, since you are a Resistance member?”
The person said, “I can, but it will take some time.”
“Ok, its just that I want to meet my dad and mom again.
It was soon becoming night, and Antonio and Karl slept in the cabin. But tomorrow will be the start of a big hunt for them siblings’ parents.
Chapter 6: March 20, 1945
Today was the day. Antonio and Karl will finally find their parents, with help from a Resistance fighter. But it would be very difficult.
“I heard that there was a concentration camp a kilometer away, we could be able to go there and see if your dad is there,” the person said
“Ok! Lets go then,” Antonio said.
They both walked and walked until they saw the concentration camp. They sat near the fence while nobody noticed, and tried to recognize the people in there.
After 30 minutes of just asking questions and saying no’s, they finally found that their dad is there, and a few minutes later, they found that their mom also stays there.
“So we found them! Now what?” Karl asked.
“We have to figure out a plan to get them out,” the Resistance fighter said.
They all went back home, and strategized the perfect plan to get Antonio’s and Karl’s parents out of the concentration camp.
