The primary elections (decide who's going to represent a party in the general election) occurs during the first half of the year. During this time, Cory the Corgi has debated against other Democratic candidates, given speeches, and spoken with other animals, hoping to win the popular vote & delegates. 

Delegates are the representative of each political party. When you win the delegates, you'll be nominated for your party's nomination for President.

Hey guys! I'm Paddy the Pug. Let me catch you up on the primaries. Corgi just won the Democratic primaries! Basically, candidates from each political party is campaigning to win delegates from each state. After discussion, candidates vote in a caucus: citizens vote in public forums where they discuss and vote instead of casting a ballot. We're celebrating inside, so I'll see you later!

Open primaries: you can vote for whoever you want despite what party you are registered as.

Closed primaries: you must vote for the candidate of the political party you are registered as.

It's nice to see you guys again:) It's time for the National Convention! This is a pep rally held by each nominee to show unity behind the candidate and their platform. The nominee chooses their vice president at this event. Let me introduce you to my VP who's going to help me balance the ticket since I'm new to government.
