Barkley and his family loved to go camping. Barkley loved the smells and the chance to run free. The family drove all day to get to his favorite campground. There were mountains, and a river, and lots of trails for Barkley to run.
As they got to the campground and finished setting up the tent, Barkley heard his favorite word, "Hike!" He jumped up and down and got excited. His girl smiled and said "Okay Barkley, we're going for a hike. Let's go!" Barkley didn't need to hear another word. He ran to the beginning of his favorite trail and waited for his family.

As Barkley and his family began their hike, he began to run ahead like he usually did. His boy and girl called out for him to stop and Barkley waited. But he could only stop for a few seconds before his nose smelled something familiar, something that smelled like him. Barkley ran further ahead until he came to a fork in the trail.
Barkley stopped at the fork and held h is nose up high. He sniffed a few times and smelled something amazing! Barkley knew he should wait, but he just couldn't. He took off running down the left side of the fork, not stopping even as he heard his name being called.
He didn't see his family taking the other fork in the trail as he ran off.
As Barkley ran further down the trail, the trees became thicker and thicker, but the smell got stronger and stronger. He continued running along, with his nose in the air, and leading the way.
Barkley ran until there was a clearing in the trees. He stopped as he looked up and saw three big dogs in his path.
"Woah! Who are you? And why do you smell like me?" Barkley barked out.
The wolves looked at each other and the oldest one said "We're wolves. We don't smell like you, you smell like us. And you look like us too. I think you are family."
Barkley was confused. He had a family already but these wolves looked just like him.

The oldest wolf then turned to Barkley and invited him to their den. "Come meet the rest of the pack. The whole family would love to meet you."
When Barkley heard the word family, he thought about his humans. "Well, I would love to. But I have to get back to my own family."
"Just for a little bit. Come and see our home in the den and meet the cubs."
Barkley thought about it and how much fun it would be. He decided that he could go for a little bit and still have time to get back to his humans.
"Well, okay, it sounds like fun, but just for a little bit."
The wolves then led Barkley further down the path where he saw a whole pack of wolves laying around a big cave.
