Chapter 1

A long long time ago, hundreds of turtles started to work on a very special product that would help their country a lot! They made a railroad! This railroad stretched all the way across their colony from one end to the next. This special railroad helped the turtles to bring products like building materials easier.

Another big thing the turtles made a long time ago was a special, new, and easier way they could make metal! The made a giant open mouthed oven that they could use to melt iron! This process was known as the Bessemer process. This metal could now be used for tools and making even more railroads!

With these new products, some of the farming turtles unfortunately lost some of their land and with new products that help them farm faster, some even lost their jobs!

Unfortunately, there were some very mean turtles that thought big turtles and small turtles were unequal and shouldn’t live in peace. A case called Plessy v Ferguson made the separation of the big and small turtles legal in their colony.

Many turtles from other countries across the world began to move to or “immigrate” to the big American turtle colony. Many of these turtles entered the new world through a special place called Ellis Island which was located in New York! Sadly, the Chinese exclusion act was created which made turtles from China not allowed in America.

Many of the immigrant turtles sadly had to live in poor areas called tenement living. These areas were crammed, had little to no pluming, and overall it was a rather sad area to live in where disease sometimes even killed these immigrant turtles.

One special politician turtle named William Tweed, AKA Boss Tweed, created a very powerful political organization called Tammany Hall which greatly supported the immigrant turtles!

During these turtle’s times, many female turtles were not allowed to vote on presidents, senators, or any community issues. Many girl turtles began to fight for their right to vote and they protested for equality between girl and boy turtles.

Around this time, many turtles were working in places like factories or even mines but their working conditions were not very good. These poor turtles would work long hours for little money and their conditions were unsafe and even lead to some deadly turtles accidents in the factories!

Many very smart turtles like Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller made big businesses and eventually monopolies! No, not the game monopoly, they made monopolies meaning they took control of their industry so they would have no more competition!

Although these business turtles were rather smart when it came to business, their companies hurt the environment. Because of new technology, when their products were made it put our harmful pollution into the air making the air worse to breathe and led to many turtle lung diseases.

Chapter 2

A group of "different" looking turtles came together to help other different looking turtles. These turtles stopped buying thing made by the other turtles, tried to make all turtles realize what the "normal" turtles were bad turtles.e

Some turtles were more unfortunate than others. One turtle named Jane Addams made space for less unfortunate turtles where they could get everything they need and gave them a good place to live.
