Computer Networking- Interconnected computing devices that share resources and exchange data between each other.
Packet- a small segment of a bigger or larger message.
Local Area Network (LAN)- a computing network that links devices within a building or group of adjacent buildings.
Wide Area Network (WAN)- a computing network connected to other computers that are far apart, the generally radius is half a mile or more.
Node- A connecting point in a communications network.
Media Access Control Address- A special identifier assigned to every device that is able to connect to a network.
IP Address- A sequence of numbers that identifies any device on a network.
Bus Topology- a type of network in which all connected computers are on a network by one RJ-45 cable or coaxial cable.
Ring Topology- a configurated network where device connections are made in a circular path of data.
Network Token- a unique frame that is passed down from node to node all around the ring network.
Star Topology- a network of topology in which each network component is physically connected to a central or main node as a router, hub or switch.
Tree Topology- a topology that has a tree like structure to it in which all computers are like branches connected with a tree.
Protocol- an established set of rules that determine how data is transmitted between seperate devices in the same network.
Peer-Peer Architecture- a commonly used computer networking architecture in which each workstation, or node, has the similar capabilities and responsibilities.
Client/Server Architecture- Architecture of a computer network in which a lot of clients (remote processors) request and receive service from a central server (host computer).
Hubs- A node that broadcasts data towards every computer or ethernet based device connected to it.
