How is Easter celebrated in Eressos, Lesvos,Greece?

Greek Easter customs differ from place to place. In most places, there are fireworks, egg painting and a type of sweet bread called 'tsoureki'.

 In Eresos, Lesvos the most polular customs are:

1. The burning of Judas on Holy Saturday evening, also called 'Ovrios'

2. 'Caramela', a local sweet made with sheep milk and sugar

3. Grilled lamb, stuffed with rice, nuts, dried fruit and spices! Yummy!!

How is Easter celebrated in Stavros, Thessaloniki, Greece?

In Stavros, Greece the most polular customs are:

* the painting of the eggs with red colour and the baking of the sweet bread called "tsoureki" on Maundy Thursday

* the traditional soup called "mageiritsa" eaten on Easter Sunday morning after church ceremony

*  spitting the lamb and "kokoretsi" on Easter Sunday

How is Easter celebrated in Croatia?

Easter is the holiest day of the year in Croatia and there are different ceremonies and Easter customs in each part of the country. Easter observances begin on Palm Sunday and continue throughout Holy Week. Outdoor Processions are taking place every night.

In the smaller towns, villagers build huge bonfires known as Krijes. Locals gather around the Krijes, it brings hope and warmth. 

Since palms are scarce in Croatia, olive or rosemary branches are an acceptable substitute. The branches are taken to a church to be blessed. 

At the end of Easter week, brightly painted eggs are given as gifts. In Croatia, they are called "pisanice or Easter eggs". There are many traditional techniques of egg decoration. The most popular ones are made with leaves, flowers, and wax. 

The faithful attend a late-night Mass that finishes after midnight.

Baskets with the food are blessed and eaten for breakfast on Easter morning.
