Well, almost all of them were happy. Whenever Groovy tried sunning herself in a nice dirt bath, relaxation just was not an option. Her sister chicks were so loud it made her cringe!
Crash!
Boom Boom!

Tattle

Woo!

BAWK BAWK!
“How’s a chicken supposed to get her beauty rest with all this NOISE?” she grumped.
She tossed her head, ruffled her feather cape, fluffed her poofy butt, and flounced off into the yard.

?
Tally, the barn cat, asked, “Where are you going? Shouldn’t you be in the coop?”

Groovy replied sharply, “To find some peace and quiet!”
“Try the bird garden,” offered Tally as she smoothed her silky fur. “It’s quite nice. I nap in the tree there all the time.”
Groovy softened as she gazed at the bird garden on the far side of the yard. “Thank you, Tally. That looks lovely.”
“I’ll go with you to make sure you’re safe,” said Tally.
So off they ventured to the bird garden.

?

“Here’s a good dust bath spot!” cried Groovy.
“Enjoy,” said Tally as she climbed effortlessly into the tallest lookout branches in the budding berry tree.
Groovy flung dust, scratched and burrowed until she finally closed her eyes to relax.

Ting-a-ling-ting went the windchimes.
Tap-tap-a-tappity-tap went the downy woodpecker.
Wee-doo-weet-woo went the chipper chickadee.
Whoosh-a-whisha-shwish went the playful breeze in the budding branches.

Splish-splash-splosh went the roly-poly robin in the birdbath. Bizz-bizz-abizzy-buzz went the honeybees. Chitter-chatter-chitty-chat went the silly squirrel.

Groovy listened to all the sounds, and though it was still noisy, she couldn’t help but wonder why it sounded so lovely.
She asked the chipper chickadee clinging to the birdfeeder, “How is it all the bird garden noise makes me feel calm, but all my sister chicks’ noise makes me so frustrated?”

Chickadee replied, “That’s easy!”
Then the chipper chickadee, the roly-poly robin, the silly squirrel and the downy woodpecker chimed in unison, “We’re a band!”
“A band?”
“Yep. A band. We put all our noises together in just the right way so it sounds so nice.”

The chickadee suggested, “You can start your own band with your sister chicks.”
“No way,” scowled Groovy. “All they know how to do is make a bunch of noise.”
The Bird Garden Band chimed in unison, “You’d be surprised.”

Doubtfully, Empress Nightwing did decide to try.

First, she asked Tauntaun, “I want to start a band. What can you play?”
Tauntaun’s eyes lit up. “I can play a garbage lid!”
Groovy scrunched up her eyes. “I don’t think that would sound very good in a band.”
“Oh, you’d be surprised,” replied Tauntaun with a grin as she stomped her feathery legs up and down on a garbage lid.
Foomp, boom, foomp, boom.
Groovy raised a skeptical brow, but Tally urged, “Come. Let’s see the others.”

Back at the coop, she thought, “Hmmm… I wonder.”
Tally twitched her whiskers and said, “How about you see what they can do?”
"Okay," said Groovy. "Here goes nothing."
