Chapter 1 | New life is born

It was a beautiful Spring day. The March sun was shining brightly and new life was starting everywhere; flowers were beginning to bloom, baby lambs and tiny chicks were being born and so was I!

Everyone was waiting for my arrival with a mixture of nerves and excitement. I was over a week late already but sure enough, my time to see the daylight arrived.

It was my Nanna who was the first to be told the news by my parents and she was delighted! She rushed to the hospital and was my very first visitor.

As she tenderly kissed my forehead, there was an instant spark. It was as though a magnet had been put between us and we were drawn together.

We had a connection like no other. I was given two gifts by my Nanna; a fluffy teddy bear with cute ears, red bow and a little button nose that never left my side and a small gold box, which was so tiny that no toy could ever fit inside.

Nanna told my parents that the box should not be opened until the time was right. ‘When will that be?’ enquired my Mum. ‘You will just know,’ replied Nanna.

Chapter 2 | Talking to Nanna

The tiny box stayed close to me as my bond with Nanna got stronger and stronger until suddenly she passed away. I was too young to really understand what had happened but while everyone mourned, I could still see and hear my Nanna.

As I started to learn to talk, sometimes I would point and shout ‘Nanna!’ Then, on my fifth Birthday, I managed to climb onto a shelf in my bedroom and reach into a jewelry box. Inside was the tiny box that my Nanna had given to me on the day I was born.

I was at a curious age and managed to force open the box, hoping that something exciting was inside.
