Sitting in the doctor's office and staring at the wall..... My mom said that I'm making things sound dramatic. But that's not true because how would it feel at your fifteenth birthday to end up in the doctor's office? While I was going through my mind's inner thoughts, my mom walked into the room with the doctor.
"Hello, Clara Ashley. My name is Dr. Hudson," the doctor standing near me introduced himself. Even though I was so downcast and frustrated that my birthday is celebrated in the doctor's office, I still tried to be polite.
"Nice to meet you!" I quickly replied. He sat down in his chair and turned on his computer.
"Clara, do you want to explain to me why you are here on your birthday?" Dr. Hudson asked while he was trying to find my name in his medical system.
"I don't even know what to start with...." I whispered.
It all started from waking up to one of the rainiest days in my life. Before I could even open my eyes, my sister, Cloudy, stormed into the room without even knocking on the door.
"Good morning Clara, are you going to pick me up from the tennis practice today?" She asked me in her smart voice.
"Cloudy, I didn't forget that you have the last tennis practice this season before the final tournament," I affirmed. Before I could say anything, mom called to the kitchen to have breakfast. I was running late to school today and as usual I decided to skip it.
"Clara, at what time did you go to sleep last night? We talked about getting at least eight hours of sleep," mom started this serious conversation in the morning. "I'm concerned that you have not eaten breakfast in a month."
"Well, I have so many things on my plate including preparations for college, community meetings, and sports..." I mumbled.
"I hope you remember that you are inclined to CDH and you have to be always in charge of your schedule and lifestyle. Thus, make sure to take breakfast with you and eat it on your way to school," mom insisted in her sharp voice. I perfectly knew that mom was right and I do have to pay more attention to my restrictions from the neurologist. Therefore, I took my lunch box and stuffed sandwiches into it. Besides, I was already late to my bus.
"Thank you mom for your reminder and Cloudy I will pick you up at 4:00 in the afternoon for your tennis practice. Also don't forget that I have a birthday coming up!" I exclaimed.
Mom laughed, "No one will ever forget about your fifteenth birthday."
The day was quite busy. I had to skip lunch since I needed to finish the final project and prepare for the band concert. Suddenly, I couldn't think about anything else as a dull pain started in my head. I grabbed the water bottle from my locker in hope that it will help to reduce the pain. Meanwhile, my best friend, Mia, came up to me with a ball in her hands from the basketball court.
"Clara, do you want to go to the gym with me? I think they are doing some basketball practice today," Mia suggested.
"I would love to, but I can't do those 'running drills' on the basketball court because my head will pound too much. I can't go unless the coach will allow me to skip the runs," I admitted. As always I'm not allowed to do some of the activities due to the CDH restrictions. From my childhood I got used to it, however, it is sometimes difficult to follow them.
