Hey kids! It's me! Carl the Chronicle Cat back at it again to teach you about history. This time, we're going to be exploring the Middle Ages through the people and classes that lived through that time!

The Middle Ages were defined as the period within European History that spanned from the collapse of the Roman civilization in the 5th century to the CE period of the renaissance.
We only have one specific person to talk about before we talk about all of the different social classes and the church, so introducing...
Charlemagne was a medieval emperor who governed a large part of western Europe from 768 to 814. He undertook the mission of uniting all Germanic peoples in one kingdom and converting his subjects to Christianity. A wise strategist, he devoted much of his reign to war in order to achieve his objectives.
Upon his death in 814, Charlemagne's empire included much of western Europe, and he had also ensured the survival of Christianity in the West.

Feudalism
Feudalism was the main social system in mediaeval Europe, where the nobility held crown lands in return for military service. The land holders were in turn tenants of the nobles, while the peasants were forced to live on their lord's land and respect him, labor, and a portion of the food grown. Their efforts were awarded with military protection.

Nobility
The nobles were able to act as the middlemen between the king and the peasants. All nobility was born from noble bloodlines from either being related to or serving directly under the king. Nobility was also known to primarily own land and partake in military strategies and practices.
