This book is dedicated to all the people who fought for a better life in France and to all the people who unfairly lost their lives.

The Meeting of the Estates General
The Meeting of the Estates General, held in Versailles, was an assembly summoned by King Louis XVI to propose a solution to France's financial and societal problems. This assembly represented the three estates of France, clergy, nobility, and commoners. The clergy and nobility always voted in their best interest and to keep the estates separate. It ended with the Third Estate forming into the National Assembly and breaking away from royal authority. This signaled the outbreak of the revolution.
The Storming of the Bastille
The Bastille was a prison. Many people died of torturous deaths inside of it. It was stormed by many angry revolutionaries of the Third Estate. They did this because of rising bread prices and continuous unfair treatment from higher powers. Also because it represented the clergy's power, which they no longer agreed with. The revolutionaries destroyed the Bastille brick by brick. The storming was one of the first violent outbreaks of the French Revolution. It ended with 98 people dead. This event demonstrated that a force of people could challenge a monarchy and overpower it.
The Women's March
The Women's March on Versailles was a riot that took place during the first stage of the revolution. Thousands of poor women, mostly of the Third Estate, marched with pikes and large knives. They were upset because of unreasonably high priced items, mainly bread, which was one of their main food staples. They mainly demanded that the King and Queen leave Versailles to move to Paris. Their surrender gave revolutionaries confidence in the power of the people over the king.
Execution of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette
Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette were both executed by the guillotine. There were many factors and events that led up to their deaths. Some of these included being convicted of conspiracy with foreign powers, treason, and failing to address France's financial problems. Louis died first. Marie was also executed, because she was seen as a perpetrator. She was blamed for the financial crisis by many, because of her bad spending habits. Many people believed that the birth of a new republic could only begin with their death. Their executions brought an end to more than 1,000 years of continuous French monarchy.
