Vocabulary to help you follow the Marvelous Macromolecules

Macromolecule:
A large, organic molecule such as carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids. Monomer. A molecule that is a building block for larger molecules (polymers).

Carbohydrate: 
An organic compound such as sugar or starch, and is used to store energy.

Lipids
A diverse group of organic compounds including fats, oils, hormones, and certain components of membranes that are grouped together because they do not interact appreciably with water.

Proteins
 Proteins are complex molecules and do most of the work in cells. They are important to the structure, function, and regulation of the body.

Nucleic Acid
long chainlike molecules composed of a series of nearly identical building blocks called nucleotides.

The Marvelous Macromolecules included four strong players named Cam Hydrate, Pros Teen, Newt Acid, and Luke Kid.  They each have their own unique abilities that make them a marvelous team.

Introducing Cam Hydrate "The Carbohydrate"....

Cam is part of the kicking team since Carbohydrates give you short term energy.  Carbohydrates are the main source of energy in your body and are made up of polysaccharides and monosaccharides. When Cam kicks a field goal to score points he eats healthy carbs which include vegetables, fruits, nuts, and grains.  When Cam misses he eats unhealthy carbs like sugary drinks, pastries, and white bread.

Introducing Luke Kid "The Lipid"....

Luke is part of the offensive line because he is a lipid and a protector of the team's quarterback. Lipids give long term energy and are made up of fatty acid chains. They contain monomers called triglycerides. Lipids have many functions such as storing energy, making up cell membranes, and protecting the body.  Luke Kid eats the following foods that include lipids like avocado, olives, corn, and nuts.
