Vocabulary:
Molecule: group of 2 or more atoms held together
Energy: we make it by eating food
ATP: made by cellular respiration and releases energy when the high energy bonds are broken
DNA: contains genetic information for development and functioning of an organism
RNA: help convert the information contained in the cell's DNA into functional gene products like proteins.
Monomer: smallest unit of larger molecules called polymers
Dehydration synthesis: combines two or more monomers to make a polymer by making water as a product
Hydrogen Bonding: slightly positive hydrogen atom with a slightly negative atom to make a easily broken bond
Glycosidic Bond: a bond that joins disaccharides
Phosphodiester Bond: bonds that form between sugar and phosphate to form the backbone of nucleic acids
Cellular Respiration: breaking down of a sugar called glucose to make energy
What are macromolecules? Huge molecules that are made up of smaller molecules, bonded by the chemical reaction of dehydration synthesis
There are 4 types:
Lipids
Carbohydrates
Proteins
Nucleic Acids
All of these are important for the function of our body!!

Lipid's function: help store energy, making cell membranes, protect and insulate the body
Healthy: unsaturated fats
is liquid at room temperature and have hydrocarbon molecules with double/triple bonds
Not healthy: saturated fats, is solid at room temperature that lacks unsaturated links between Carbon atoms

They are made up of monomers (triglycerides) which give you energy for long periods of time
A triglyceride=free fatty acid+ glycerol
which means they will not mix with water to break down --> the long term energy
Carbs: gives us energy for short periods of time which makes it the most accessible and used source of energy for us
The polymer of a carbohydrate is a polysaccharide, which is made out of monosaccharides (bonding to make Glycosidic Bonds)
Since carbohydrates have sugar, they are broken down by CELLULAR RESPIRATION to make ATP, which we use as energy Glycosidic Bond

I get so much energy after eating cookies!!
