Who am I?

I am a Javan Rhinoceros, I have hairless, thick, and rough skin that is dusty gray in color. I have a horn because I am a male but my female friends either have no horn or a really short one. I have loose folds in my skin that makes it look like I have armor. I can weigh anywhere from 900 to 2000 kilograms. I have bad eyesight but I make up for it with my excellent hearing.

My Habitat/distribution

Before I was extinct in the wild, you would be able to find me in thick, low-lying, tropical rainforests. I loved the abundance of rain and mud there! These places are in south western Asia. These places can now only be found in the Ujung Kulon National Park, on Java, Indonesia’s western tip.

How Long do I Live and What Do I Eat?

I typically live for 30 to 40 years. Sadly, due to climate change, habitat loss is making it hard for us to live in the wild. Now, we are completely extinct in the wild and live only in sanctuaries where we are provided a habitat. I am a primary consumer and a  strict Herbivore, which means I eat mostly leaves, twigs, many species of grass and fallen fruit.

My nickname is the "lesser one-horned rhino" because my other close species have 2 horns

I am considered the worlds most endangered species

I have 3 subspecies, Indonesian, Vietnamese, and Indian, but the Indonesian is the only ones left today.

We have looked about the same for the past 1 million years!

We can eat up to 50 kg of vegetations per day!

If I get pregnant, it can take from 16-19 months for me to have my baby!

Ancient people used to think I had magic powers, like purifying water and detecting poison!
