There was once a dog named Brownie King ...

Brownie loved allll people and animals, regardless of their age, race, or gender.

I even like gingers!

Because Brownie cared about everyone, he wanted to be president to make everyone’s lives better.

Brownie started traveling to different towns trying to appeal to the Democrats. He presented himself as fairly liberal to win the support of his party.
Free healthcare!!!!

Brownie gathered a campaign team to advocate for him and draw attention to his name. They traveled all over the United States with him, collecting donations from people and companies who hoped to see Brownie progress. Brownie knew he had to focus on garnering support in areas he was less familiar with who may not vote for him.

Brownie gave speeches in towns all over the place. He went to big and small towns to make sure everyone heard his voice and got the chance to interact with him. He really aimed to be a “dachsund of the dogs” appealing to all different breeds from all different backgrounds.

Brownie gathered supporters in all the different states, creating a campaign team who could advocate for him and spread his message. Brownie knew he needed to appeal to small dogs since they were often underrepresented in politics.
We love brownie!!!!

Brownie was competing for the dogocratic nomination against a big dog named Spot. Brownie was hoping he could use his small dog status to his advantage to advocate for a switch up in typical candidates.
The Primaries
Brownie was super nervous for the primaries, as they would determine if he got to run for president. The primary is where each party decides who from their party they want to nominate to run for president. For example, the dogocrats (Brownie’s party) could nominate Brownie for president and the Repuplicans will nominate who they want to run for their party.
In New York, there is a closed primary. This means you can only vote to nominate someone within the party you’re registered in. Only Repuplicans can vote in the Repuplican primary.
In Hawaii, on the other hand, there is an open primary. This means that voters can individually choose which primary they want to vote in. Dogocrats, for ex, could choose to vote in the Repuplican primary.
In other states, such as Iowa, the primary is held as a caucus. This is like a meeting or conference of sorts where local members of either party meet and discuss who they want to nominate from their party.
Primary candidates may have delegates to support them. Delegates are people who represent the interests of a political party. In order to win the nomination. Primary candidates need to obtain support from the most delegates. delegates will pledge to support their backed candidate at the National Convention.

We all pledge to support Brownie!!!

Primaries take place from January-June, as different states hold them on different days. Super Tuesday is the day when the most US states hold their primaries. This can be a very stressful day for candidates like Brownie.

California and Kansas go to Brownie!
Tennessee and Virginia go to Spot!!!

Tomorrow is super Tuesday guys. It’s crucial to my nomination that I do well in the polls tomorrow. Let’s hope voter turnout is good!

The primaries continue through June as various states decide which candidate from each party they want to support. Sometime in July or August, each party will formally announce their nomination.

California
Texas
Vermont
And the dogocratic presidential nominee is… Brownie!!!!!
The Dogocratic Convention

The National Convention typically occurs in July and August and is sort of a pep rally to promote party unity and enthusiasm for the candidate.

We love you!!!!!!!!!
Go Brownie!!!!!
It is super important for presidential nominees to “balance the ticket”. This means finding a candidate that appeals to voters that you don’t.

If you’re a big dog, you might pick a small dog for VP to appeal to the little pups.

If you come off as more rugged and stern, a disarming, more relaxed candidate would be a good pick.

This way, the presidential nominee can appeal to all different types of voters.
