Thrown off the Train
In 1893, Gandhi was an attorney riding first class on a train to Pretoria. While on the train, a white man did not believe he should be riding first class for being colored. The man did not believe Gandhi when he said he was an attorney, and got Gandhi kicked off the train with his baggage.

Burning the Passes
In 1908, in South Africa, it was required for all Indians to have a government pass. Gandhi wanted to burn all passes. As he was burning the passes he was getting beaten by a British officer. Gandhi continued to burn the passes while getting beaten.

State of India
1915 - 1918, Gandhi traveled all over India to get to know India better and the people living in it. He saw many problems throughout India. His goal was to solve these problems and help as many people as he could.

Day of Fasting and Prayer
On April 6, 1919, Gandhi called a day for fasting and prayer for all of India. This resulted in all Indians that day not attend their work and to fast and pray all day. He called this to protest against the coming into law. This caused the Amritsar Massacre to leave 1,516 casualties of Indians having a peaceful protest.

Protesters
In 1921, Gandhi peacefully protested against cloth bought by the British. He would burn the British cloth and weave his cloth. He believed the cloth bought by the British made poverty in India. While civilians were protesting in the streets all over India, one protest got too out of control and left policemen dead in a burning police station. This disappointed Gandhi. He decided to go on a hunger strike until all of the violence in India was gone. His action worked and all violence stopped.

March to the Sea
March 12 to April 5, 1930, the Salt March was a 24-day march to make salt from the ocean. They arrived at the sea on the anniversary of the Amritsar Massacre. Gandhi's purpose for this march was for Indians to stop buying salt from the British and make it themselves.
