For TTU Health and Physical Education for EC-6 Instruction.

Close read is important because it is careful, important understanding of a text. It emphasizes the single and the particular over the general, effected by close attention to individual words, the syntax, the order in which the sentences unfold ideas, as well as formal structures. It can be used in PE by having the students learn about the importance of being healthy to develop the importance of movement at a young age.
Through hands-on learning/activities, children are encouraged to learn through exploring. Hands-on learning develops thinking skills and much more. The senses are engaged through physical participation- Through the seven senses, children develop an understanding of their world and engage with different learning styles. Any activity in PE involving a ball or other "toy" is an example of hands on learning. More specifically learning how to dribble a basketball.
Field trips are very important to a students education. I loved them growing up, and can't wait to share that experience with my future students. For visual learners, a field trip lets them touch, feel and listen to what they're learning about, which helps them understand classroom instruction, gain a better understanding of topics, build cultural understanding, and expose them to worlds outside their own. For a PE class, the students could visit the local gym to see adults workout, or visit a nearby park and spend the day playing outside.
Guest speakers are fundamental in breaking down the barriers of the classroom walls to deepen learning. The experience gives students the opportunity to connect with professionals and create meaningful learning connections. For a PE class, a retired athlete could come speak to the kids.
Homework teaches students how to problem solve. Homework gives student another opportunity to review class material. Homework gives parents a chance to see what is being learned in school. Homework teaches students how to take responsibility for their part in the educational process. You could assign a student to practice jumping rope at home- to practice that skill If it was taught in class that day.
