Mr. Leuzzi, Ms. Melissa and the grade 1/2
class were about to embark on a journey.
Their journey was to begin in Australia.
Australia is called the land down under
because it is below the equator. It is one of
the seven continents of the world. It is also a
country.

They quickly packed their suitcase and headed to the
airport. At the airport, each person had to show their
passport to the officer to get checked. The officer said
" Please take out your passports. Don't forget
everyone traveling to another country needs their
passport." Nicole said " I always wanted to go to
Sydney, Australia. It`s a city." as she waved it around.
After the officer checked all the passports, they
entered the airplane to enjoy the 11 hour flight (China
to Australia).

When Ms. Leuzzi, Ms. Melissa and the whole
grade 1/2 class stepped out of the airplane,
they couldn't help but notice that the weather
in Australia is warm and pleasant. It was 20
degrees Celsius on that wonderful day in
Sydney, Australia.

The warmest months in Australia happen
when we are having winter in Canada. In
December, January and March it can get up to
26 degrees Celsius in the city.
Aliya said " I heard that have beautiful
beaches in Australia. I hope we have go visit
one of them."

Savannah was looking at how the people
dress.
The girls and women in Australia dress in
denim shorts, skirts and summer dresses for
those that are around or near the beaches.
While those in cities like casual or formal
dresses.
Australian boys and men wear tee shirts,
board shorts, denim shorts, and hats.

As we were walking, we saw many animals
that live only in Australia and nowhere else in
the world.
We spotted some of the most famous animals
in Australia. They are called marsupials. A
marsupial is a mammal that has a pouch to
carry its young.

Kaylee said "Everyone look I see a kangaroo."
with a big smile. The kangaroo hopped next to
Kaylee. She decided to name the Kangaroo, Roo-
Roo. Inside the kangaroo's pouch was a joey. Baby
kangaroos are known as ‘joeys’.
The Kangaroo liked her so much that she
allowed Kaylee to sit on her as she jumped
around. A Kangaroo can jump as high as 30 feet in
the air.

Fun factsKangaroos can’t walk backwards.
Kangaroos can jump very high, sometimes
three times their own height.
Kangaroos can swim.
Most kangaroos eat grass.
