Mr. Leuzzi, Ms. Melissa and the grade 1/2
class were about to embark on a journey.
Their journey was to begin in Italy.
Italy is a country. This country is in the
continent called Europe.
Italy is easy to recognize on any
world map, as the country is
shaped like a high-heeled boot.

They quickly packed their suitcase and headed to the
airport. At the airport, each person had to show their
passport to the officer to get checked. The officer said "
Please take out your passports. Don't forget everyone
traveling to another country needs their passport."
After the officer checked all the passports, they entered the
airplane to enjoy the 20 hour flight (Australia to Italy).

When the grade 1/2 class got out of the airport,
they were amazed to be in Rome, Italy.
Matteo noticed right away the Italy Flag waving in
the wind.
Portia said "I heard each color represents
something: hope (green), faith (white), and charity
(red)."

Felix said " We should go explore the city of
Rome."
Simona responded" I agree. We should put on
sunscreen lotion and wear a hat. It is going to be
25 degrees Celsius."
Alexia said " I've been to Italy before. Most of Italy
has a Mediterranean type of climate, which has
cool, rainy winters and hot, dry summers."
Ms. Melissa told the girls to wear light dress
and the boys to wear shorts and a t-shirt.

As we were walking in Piazza del Colosseo,
Alessandro jumped up in excitement and said "
WOW! look at those people driving a motorcycle".
Vincenzo said "Those are called Vespa's."
Vespa is an Italian brand of a scooter. The name
means wasp in Italian.

The grade 1/2 class followed the Vespa's to a
popular attraction in Rome.
They were fascinated to see the Colosseum. This
was a sport stadium in Ancient Rome where people
compete.
Natalia said "The Colosseum is huge. I heard it
could seat 50,000 people.It is 620 feet long, 512
feet wide, and 158 feet tall. It took more than 1.1
million tons of concrete, stone, and bricks to
complete the Colosseum."

After visiting the Colosseum, Tristan M.K said " I
am getting hungry, I think we should go for lunch".
Nicole said " I heard when in Rome, there is one
thing you won’t have to worry about: being able to
find a nice place to eat."
They went to a restaurant called "La Fontana di
Venere". This restaurant is near the Fountain of
Trevi.
Eva said "A legend says that visitors who throw a
coin into the fountain will return to Rome one day."
